It’s time to make a joyful noise again. Will you join us?
The choir will have its first rehearsal of the season on Wednesday, August 24th from 7:00-8:30PM in the church sanctuary and return to worships service on Sunday, September 11th. On that Sunday the choir will perform “Oh, God, Our Hearts Were Shattered”, which was written to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Joining many voices to create one voice in the praise of God is a very powerful and moving experience. Don’t let thoughts like “I don’t know how to read music,” or “my voice isn’t good enough or strong enough..” stop you from experiencing this special type of worship.
I am proud to say that even with the difficulties of Covid, we were able to add three new members to the choir last year. My goal is to add six new members this year! We are deeply in need of adding men, so we can be a more balanced choir. Ladies, don’t worry. We will take you in, as well!
If you have ever thought about singing in the choir, I ask that you consider coming to our rehearsal on August 24th. Come. take us for a “test drive” and I’m sure you will enjoy the ride!

Read Eleanor's thankful note below to her awesome volunteers who helped her distribute food earlier this week!
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" and the high temperature didn't stop us, either! We were all red faced and guzzling water, but we completed the St Pat distribution! Thank you to Kathleen B, Lauri/Tim D, Lynn K, Carolyn W, drop-in Beth B, driver Ron (I was late, but saw him as he was leaving St Pat's), and our ever faithful rep. Arturo. 44 households and 159 individuals received food from REFB at St Pat's tonight! It's so rewarding to hear the thanks and see the smiles as we put food in their cars.
The worst of covid seems to be on the decline, but food prices and other essential items continue to escalate. I suspect the need for food will continue or increase. Volunteers for St Pat's are ready!
REFB has begun "meals on wheels" type of program. If you can help, please contact them at refb.org.

Uncovering and Challenging a History We Thought We Knew:
The Development of Rabbinic Judaism and Classical Christianity, 586 B.C.E. to 325 C.E.

This six-week class will explore the long developmental trajectory of Rabbinic Judaism and Classical Christianity through the critical period of western history from 586 B.C.E. to 325 C.E. Beginning with the traumatic, decisive events of exile in Babylon where what we call “Judaism” began, we will trace the development of Jewish tradition and self-consciousness through its encounter, accommodation, and resistance to the Hellenistic world. Then, with the spread and growing power of the Roman empire, we’ll follow Judea’s struggle for identity and survival leading through the tumultuous period of unrest and revolution in the first century C.E. One development from that struggle was the growth of a renewal movement that followed a Galilean peasant, Jesus of Nazareth, whose life and death would ultimately spawn a different trajectory from within the heart of the Jewish tradition. While history would come to declare this movement a separate religion called Christianity, our work together will show the overwhelming ways in which there was not a “parting of the ways” until after the rise of Constantine in the fourth century of the Common era. This is a history filled with surprises that will challenge everything you thought you know, even those who believe they know it well.
This course will be held on Tuesdays from 11:30-1:00 on the following dates:
September 13, 20,27 and October 4,11,18. Class will be held in Stevenson Hall at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 9000 Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, California.
We will have light refreshments at 11:15.

Sonoma After-School Cafe Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteer Food Delivery Drivers for After-School Cafe program
We are looking for volunteer drivers to deliver healthy meals to children attending afterschool programs. With your help, we can serve approximately 1,064 meals per week. This is an opportunity that can be done solo but also can be great for a team of two. Volunteer with your spouse, your coworker, or your friend.
As a volunteer driver, you may take your personal vehicle or drive one of our vans, to deliver meals in insulated coolers to Afterschool Programs in Sonoma, Cotati, and Rohnert Park.
Meals are picked up at Santa Rosa City School Kitchen Monday through Thursday. Pick a date that works best for your schedule, and help us feed children before they head home for the day.
The volunteer shift is 3-4 hours, with a monthly commitment preferred but there is flexibility. If you are interested and would like to find out more, please contact Volunteer Coordinators, Liz Berry, or Jorge Delgado.
