Register Now for the Rural Education Summit!
There is still time to register for the Virginia Tech Center for Rural Education's inaugural event, the Rural Education Summit, to be held on August 26th. This event will launch the new center, supported in part by ISCE, and provide the opportunity for participants to engage on timely topics. See the Conference's section below for details.

Funding Opportunities

New Social Science PREP Program (Preparing your Research for an Extramural Proposal)
The Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment (ISCE) is offering an opportunity for a cohort of faculty members in the social sciences who are new to preparing proposals for extramural funding or who have had limited success in the role of PI. The primary goal of this program is to support faculty whose research is likely to lead to external funding. This two-semester, structured program consists of didactic and interactive sessions resulting in the submission of a grant application by August 2023. The 2023 January Program is Now Open
The Alzheimer's Association Research Grant aims to fund early-career investigators conducting Alzheimer's disease related research. The purpose of this program is to provide newly independent investigators with funding that will allow them to provide preliminary or pilot data to test procedures and develop hypotheses.  Click here for details.

IES Calls for Grant Applications for the Fiscal Year 2023
The Institute of Education Sciences is now accepting applications for their 2023 grant program. This program is designed to support the state agencies' use of the state's education longitudinal data systems (SLDS) to understand and support learners affected by opportunity and achievement gaps. Call for Faculty Scholars Program Applications
The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. Each year, the Foundation selects approximately 3 Scholars to receive 50 percent salary support for three years to enable them to carry out a specific research proposal. Click here for details. Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) for Research on the Health of Bisexual and Bisexual+ People
This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is a call for research, research training, and research career development on the health and wellbeing of people who identify as bisexual or bisexual+ (an umbrella term used by NIH). The NOSI is intended to stimulate research into the biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social processes that affect the health and welfare of bisexual/bisexual+ individuals, and the development of interventions, preventive strategies, and service delivery methods. Wellcome Invites Applications for Sleep and Circadian Science Research
Wellcome’s Mental Health Award is for integrating sleep and circadian science into our understanding and treatment of anxiety, depression, and psychosis.  Wellcome is interested in applications that advance understanding of the dynamic changes that occur in sleep and circadian rhythm across trajectories and phases of anxiety, depression and psychosis, in different developmental, geographical, societal and cultural contexts. Congratulations to these Researchers for their Achievements in Gaining Extramural Funding!
Martha Ann Bell, University Distinguished Professor of Psychology in the College of Science received funding from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health, for “An Integrative Longitudinal Analysis of Neural Rhythms in Early Development.”
Navid Ghaffarzadegan, Associate Professor in the Grado Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering, received funding from the National Science Foundation for “Mathematical Formulations of Human Behavior Change in Epidemic Models.”

Registration Still Open for Rural Education Summit!
Virginia Tech's new Center for Rural Education and the Office of Outreach and International Affairs are sponsoring a rural education summit that will enable participants to share ideas, build partnerships and engage with one another at the Center's inaugural event. The summit will focus on a variety of timely topics such as “Identities and Intersectionalities,” “Supporting Multilingual Learners,” and “Investments in Rural Youth.”   The event will be held on August 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Inn at Virginia Tech  Click here for details and to register.
Join OSP Pre-Award Associates for an Introduction to Virginia Tech’s Proposal Submission Process

Call for Proposals for the 6th Frascari Symposium: Finishing: The Ends of Architecture

NIH Announces New Format For Virtual Grants Preparation Conference
For the past two years, NIH's virtual grants preparation seminar has spanned four days and included 50 sessions. This year, NIH is providing participants with the opportunity to obtain the content over a longer period, allowing time for the information to digest. They are pulling select topics out of the larger conference and sharing them in monthly pre-conference events, allowing greater opportunity to dive deeper into issues and build time for additional Q&A, case studies, and conversation.
