ICT BURSARY AND LAPTOP STUDENT RECIPIENTS ARE URGED TO BE AN INSPIRATION TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION
Nine students from the Department of Information and Communication Technology at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) were recently awarded bursaries to the tune of R1 million together with laptops by the prominent IT company, International Business Machines (IBM), South Africa.
They are Sanele Doyisa -Advanced Diploma student in ICT, Sthembiso Thabethe -ICT Honours student, Simon Xaba -Advanced Diploma student in ICT, Andile Chonco -Advanced Diploma student in ICT, Nompilo Mkhulisi – ICT Honours student, Zinhle Nzuza –third-year Diploma student in ICT, Ntokozo Ngcobo -Advanced Diploma in ICT, Ningi Mbona- third- year Diploma student in ICT and Sithembiso Kweyama – Advanced Diploma student in ICT.

Speaking on her academic journey and winning the Top Published Masters Student of the Year Award for 2021 at the recent ENVISION2030 INSTITUTIONAL AWARDS was DUT’s Ayogeboh Epizitone, who is from the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics.
The proud Epizitone was all smiles upon receiving the good news and to add to that being women’s month, she explains why there is a vital need for female researchers at DUT and globally.

GOLDEN KEY DUT CHAPTER DONATES OVER 100 BOOKS TO ST PHILOMENA’S CHILDREN’S HOME
To instil a culture of reading books, the Golden Key International Honour Society Durban University of Technology (DUT) Chapter recently donated over 100 books to St Philomena’s Children’s Home in Sydenham, Durban.
This was after GK DUT Chapter hosted a three-week Book Drive at all the DUT libraries urging the University community to donate new or gently used children or teenage books.
According to the GK DUT Chapter Advisor, Ayanda Mthethwa, the primary aim of the Book Drive was to collect books, donate it to one of the Durban child and youth care centres.
DUT HOSTS THE FIRST INNOBIZ DUT BOOT CAMP FOR ENTREPRENEURS
The innobiz DUT Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation recently held a two-day Personal Development and Leadership Workshop at Mitchell’s Park, Durban. This workshop was the first innobiz DUT boot camp held for the entrepreneurs who participated in the first and second Hackathon and have become part of the innobiz programme. The purpose of this session was to challenge the entrepreneur’s perception of the business field and to bring them to understand the importance of their personal development in relation to their business development.
As off 18 July 2022, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) staff and students have physically returned to campus after the relaxation of the public health mandates and the COVID-19 restrictions. To get insight on getting back to the “new” normal, DUT’s Communications team Zanele Mashaba spoke to Amanda Makalima, Student Administration Clerk at the Midlands Campus.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role and the duration you have been at DUT?
A: “I work in the Student Administration department at the Midlands campus and recently celebrated my one-year work anniversary with DUT, having started in August 2021. My responsibilities include registration, data capturing, and validations.
