The Glorious 12th.

The red grouse shooting season begins today.
This may or may not come as a surprise to you. It certainly comes as a surprise to the nestling red grouse who are rudely disturbed by a group of beaters in their heathery moorlands.

These beaters beaters flush the poor unsuspecting creatures into the sky towards a gang of middle aged gunmen (a mixture of aristos and business types with a common interest in mass slaughter and drinking.) The gunmen  attempt to blast them out of their terrified flight paths and into the waiting mouths of their slavering dogs. I think that just about sums it up apart from the fact that when you have washed off the dogs saliva and extracted the pellets the grouse are edible.

This activity may or not appeal to you but if you fancy some of the excitement of hunting without the blood and expense we would recommend the flygun instead.
