Iowa Makes Elder Abuse a Crime
All 50 States Now Recognize this Elder Justice Issue

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed into law Senate File 522 which sets criminal charges — ranging from misdemeanors to felonies punishable by up to 25 years in prison, based on the severity of the crime — for abusing, assaulting or financially exploiting a person age 60 or older. Reynolds signed the bill during a ceremony at Highland Ridge Senior Living Community in Williamsburg.

Fraud Related PSA for Older Adults

EJI has collaborated with the FBI's IC3 program to develop a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for the general public. This PSA encourages the public to file reports of financial fraud through the IC3 electronic reporting system, demonstrates how to file the report, and explains what types of fraud can be reported, including fraud targeting older Americans.  The PSA stresses the urgency of filing reports quickly to increase opportunities to intervene.

DOJ Elder Justice Initiative - Get Involved, Get Safe

The DOJ EJI has developed a series of flyers that can be distributed in your communities to help raise awareness of the different types of elder abuse and to provide important education, guidance, and resources to help keep older adults safe.
