Ceremony for Native American Hall of Honor Open to Public
BISMARCK, N.D. – On Thursday, Sept. 8, the public is invited to attend an honoring ceremony and exhibition in recognition of persons being inducted into the Native American Hall of Honor at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, Bismarck. The 2022 inductees being honored for achievements in the Leadership, Military, and Sports categories are Gerald Monette, Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa; Juanita Jean Helphrey (White Flower), Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation; Kevin Finley, Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation; Mark N. Fox, Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation; and a group of Vietnam veterans including Christopher Wilmer Davis, David Allen Larson, Dennis James Manson, Ralph Charles McCowan, and Eric Daryl Nadeau, Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa.
The event will begin with a traditional feed at 5 p.m., followed by the honoree ceremony at 6 p.m. and the Native American Hall of Honor exhibition opening. “This initiative is an excellent way to honor Native Americans who have gone above and beyond in representing their tribes and cultures,” says North Dakota Indian Affairs Commissioner Nathan Davis. The program is a partnership of the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, the State Historical Society of North Dakota, and the State Historical Society Foundation.
This event will offer social distancing seating options and will also be livestreamed for public access at facebook.com/ndmuseum.
