Health Education for the Youth!

During the months of April to June, Entepesi Kenya had a large push for health education. Partnering with other organizations EK brought sexual reproductive, menstrual, and mental health to 1,118 students and staff.

On April 16th, EK partnered with Project Fahamu to educate 70 youth above the age of 14 on sexual reproductive health. This included topics of menstrual health, puberty, teen pregnancies, and sexual reproduction. 39 of those youth were girls who received 7 packs of sanitary pads each.

On May 30-31st, EK partnered with Lala Salama to visit three schools in Makueni County. We were able to educate 489 students and staff about menstrual health and 559 on mental health awareness at Kongo, Kathiani, and Mbukoni Primary School. Additionally, 92 young girls received sanitary towels to assist them when on their menstrual cycles.

From these events, EK plans to begin a monthly program in schools where they can educate the students regularly based on health topics relevant to their lives and communities. This will include starting a health club where weekly meetings are held and health advocacy is taught and encouraged among the students. Each school program has a budget of $150 (15,000 Ksh.) per month. In partnership with the local Ministry of Education department there are seven schools with a very high need for a program like this.

You can support us to achieve this goal by becoming a monthly sponsor of a school program!

Needs and Solutions for the County’s 5 year plan!

Every five years the current county government assesses the needs of the communities and puts together a five year plan to reduce the problems and needs. It is an integrated plan that covers the agriculture, environmental, health, education, and other important topics.

Entepesi Kenya alongside 18 other organizations came together to note major needs seen at the ground level while working with the people of Kajiado South County. Next to the many needs identified the group came up with realistic, measurable goals the county should consider when creating the next CIDP (County Integrated Development Plan) for 2023-2027.

The final product was presented to the county at a second meeting, where they agreed to consider the recommendations and allow the organizations to submit solutions for consideration in their plan. This was a big step in making changes and positive systematic changes to encourage growth and more help to the people in need.
