After two years of COVID, we're back and ready to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary Edition of Lebanese Film Festival Australia. We'll be showcasing 28 films, ranging from features, to documentaries and shorts, across Sydney - primarily in Bankstown, home to LFF, and Broadway. Launching with our iconic Opening Night function on Thursday, 25 August, screenings will continue through to 10 September where we'll come to a close with our traditional Closing Night function to include our pop up - BAR LFF.
Our film program presents you with a broad spectrum of genres, from drama to comedy to action. More significantly, the majority of the 2022 LFF program tells the many stories of Lebanon and its present day crises as it continues to face some challenging times. The value of a film festival is gaining insight into different stories and perspectives, and were really hope you enjoy them. This edition of the newsletter will take you through some of our key events and highlights.
Finally, as a non-profit, 100% volunteer led community based organisation, we're rallying all troops to come together, join us, and help spread the word.

SPECIAL EVENT: OPENING NIGHT FUNCTION & SCREENING OF MEMORY BOX*
Thursday, 25 August, 6.15pm - Bryan Brown Theatre in Bankstown
Tickets are $110 and inclusive of Lebanese canapés and drinks, followed by formalities and the film screening.
Maia, a single mother, lives in Montreal with her teenage daughter, Alex. On Christmas Eve, they receive an unexpected delivery. The film had its worldwide premiere at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival and is the first Lebanese film to be nominated, among 15 films, for the Berlinale Competition in four decades.

*Join us, under the patronage of Australian Film icon, Bryan Brown AM, together with international guest and award winning Lebanese film maker, Ziad Doueiri, and acclaimed journalist, author and diversity advocate Antoinette Lattouf as Master of Ceremonies, in celebrating the 2022 Lebanese Film Festival 10 year anniversary edition Opening Night function. This iconic event will welcome you on the red carpet together with servings of Lebanese canapes and drinks, followed by formalities and film screening of Memory Box - an exceptional Canadian-Lebanese-French film, written and directed by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige.

Award-winning international guest: Lebanon's Ziad Doueiri presents
'The Insult'
From Beirut to Bankstown - we're excited to have Ziad Doueiri join us in person in celebration of ten years of Lebanese Cinema in Australia. Ziad is best known for his award winning films West Beirut (1998) and more recently, Oscar nominated under Best Foreign Language Film category, The Insult (2017). Ziad will present The Insult on Friday, 26 August at 7.00pm, HOYTS Bankstown, followed by a Q&A. |

A DAY OF FREE SHORTS AND DOCOS
Sunday 28 August, Bankstown Arts Centre [FREE ENTRY - REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED]
LFF presents you with a day of short films and documentaries - free of charge - at the Bankstown Arts Centre. From titles including Beirut, the Aftermath and Safezone Potato Girls, this showcase presents you with a range of perspectives on the Beirut explosion and its impacts, as well as emerging Lebanese film talent. All films are free, and you can book either for a single session or for an All-Day Pass. Donations to the cause are accepted of course!

SPECIAL EVENT: LFF CLOSING NIGHT FUNCTION
Saturday, 10 September, HOYTS Bankstown
Tickets $40 - includes Lebanese canapés and access to BAR LFF area where Lebanese wine and beer available for purchase. Food to be served either before or after the film, depending on the session time.
Join us as we bring the Tenth Anniversary Sydney edition to a close with the screening of Weekend and Daughters of Abdul Rahman.
Weekend*, directed by Sami Koujan is a comedy film. Omar and Joanna are in a new and a beautiful relationship, one day she invites him to spend the weekend with her at her mountain house so he can meet her family. The film screening starts at 6.30pm, followed by a buffet of Lebanese food.
Daughters of Abdul Rahman**is directed by Zaid Abu Hamdan, our inaugural Film of the Year Winner in 2012. Years after escaping a dictated life, four estranged and offbeat sisters are forced to come together to find their suddenly-missing father. In their secret searching journey, secrets are revealed and more questions are raised. Lebanese food served at 7.00pm, prior to the film screening.
