11th annual Afro Carib Fest (ACF)
Aug 20- 21, 12noon - 9pm
Scarborough: Thompson Memorial Park, 1005 Brimley Road

Check out this 2-day event that celebrates diversity, showcases artists, while bridging social, cultural and economic gaps through arts, music, dance and heritage of the Afro- Caribbean communities and beyond. Learn more here.

ACF is one of the fastest growing cultural festivals in the GTA, welcoming people of all ages and cultural backgrounds both nationally and internationally.

What we expect from organizers: ❤ Submit an event proposal with our form by 5 pm on Wednesday, 17 August.   If approved we expect:  ❤ Any advertising for the event will have the OPIRG York logo. ❤ Open communication leading up to the week. ❤ a commitment to make events as accessible as possible.
 What OPIRG offers you:   ❤ We will list your event in the  Dis-­O Week schedule, to be distributed to students. ❤ We can partner on events ❤ help with volunteer outreach ❤ support to book rooms or find an outdoor space. ❤ help you brainstorm  and arrange logistics, if needed

Healing & Feeling Mindfulness workshop
Wednesday August 17th 4:00 PM
Access Centre office, Room 321, First Student Centre

Work within a trauma informed framework to navigate through feelings while creating collages to express yourself and your feelings. This is a judgment-free space and folks are encouraged to share what they are comfortable with.

This workshop will be facilitated by Jamie Quinn.

All collage materials and snacks will be provided!

Join Creative Green Tools Canada for a conversation with Binizá feminist scholar and activist Dr. Isabel Altamirano-Jiménez that will explore feminism, indigeneity and how its intersections can improve the way we relate with our natural world and resources.

There will be live English to French translation throughout and additional accessibility support will be provided upon request.


 
FYI: There is a new proposed development in Jane-Finch
Alert from Jane-Finch Housing Coalition

Ranee Management submitted a Zoning By-law Amendment application on December 29, 2021 to the City of Toronto to permit the intensification of their property located at the intersection of
Sentinel Road and Finch Avenue West.

The proposed buildings will bring 1,720 new rental units to the site. For further information on project details and updates please refer to the developer/property owner’s website here: Ranee Management.
