The Department of Food Science and Technology and The Food Processing Center would like to welcome new and returning students to the 2022 Fall Semester!
Students, faculty, and the facilities at the Food Innovation Center were featured in several news articles in Nebraska Today and social media.

Alum Dr. Lisbeth Vallecilla Yepez (upper left) was featured in a Class of 2022 spotlight on UNL's social media. Dr. Yepez is quoted as saying, "I am passionate about finding biological solutions to the world's problems while taking care of the planet. I see myself working in a industry position in the biotechnology field."

Snigdha Guha (upper right) was also featured as a graduating student in the Class of 2022. Dr. Guha discussed her research into pure and isolated gamma glutamyl peptides derived from food as potential preventative measures for vascular inflammation. Dr. Changmou Xu and his wife and co-founder, Dr. Xiaoqing Xie (lower left), worked with numerous campus entities to increase the value of the aronia berry through their startup, A+ Berry. Their efforts were featured in Nebraska Today and can be read at https://go.unl.edu/2jyr

The Food Processing Center's Sensory Analysis Lab (lower right) and Julie Reiling were featured in a recent Nebraska Today Article. Julie discussed the types of sensory tests that are conducted there as well as some of the products that were the subject of testing. The full article is available at https://go.unl.edu/zrgm
Congratulations to Dr. Charles Nwaizu and Dr. Jeff Price on receiving graduate faculty status. They may serve on graduate student supervisory committees and mentor their own graduate students.
The fifth cohort of students, in the 3+1 Program toured campus and the Food Innovation Center before beginning their classes on August 22, 2022. They are pictured here with Dr. Charles Nwaizu, Dr. Dongjin Park, Dr. Keting Li and several graduate students from earlier cohorts.
Congratulations to Tengfei Li (left) and Carmen Cano Roca (Right) here pictured with Dr. Curt Weller. Tengfei and Carmen attended IAFP 2022 where they were awarded Student Travel Awards.The award provides travel funding for full-time students to attend the annual meeting (including symposia and technical sessions) of the International Association for Food Protection and to encourage developing scientists to participate in association activities.
At the International Association of Food Protection (IAFP) 2022 Annual Conference, Jessica Humphrey was awarded 2nd place in the J. Mac Goepfert Developing Scientist Competition. The title of her poster was “Identification of wheat-specific peptides for use in the development of immunoassay and proteomic-based detection methods.” She received $1000 and a certificate for 2nd place.

2 Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor Faculty Positions

The Department of Food Science and Technology, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for up to 2 full time Tenure-Track: Assistant Professor positions with a nine-month academic appointment beginning January 1, 2023. The department seeks an individual with demonstrated expertise in harnessing the physical and chemical properties of foods to influence the intestinal microbiome, food safety, or quality. The research should influence health either through food safety, food quality, food processing, novel ingredients, and/or the microbiome.
