A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Hi, all –

What a wonderful time we had together at our 2022 Summer Engagement Conference! I hope you left as I did…energized, excited, and inspired!

I’m also excited that our executive team (Kelly, Bobbie Jo, and I) are planning to visit every area in person at least once this year as a group. We’ll start scheduling soon. Visits will vary…some might include lunch or coffee with the site staff, some will consist of site visits, and more.

I know you heard me say it more than once at the conference, but let me say it again: I really do want to hear from you. Your thinking and ideas are so important. You can contact me via email at malissa.martin@cismidamerica.org or CEO@cismidamerica.org or my cell at 785-764-0280.

To kick off this communication, let me pose a question to our student support coordinators specifically: If you were told that you could only continue a single service to your students, what would it be? Basic needs? Mentoring? Referrals? And why? We’ll never know such a situation, of course, but I am so interested in hearing your thoughts about which one thing your experience says is most critical to our cause!

My best to all of you as this new school year begins! Let’s get to it!

FINANCE & TECHNOLOGY
Technology
  • Need some tech support? When you are submitting ticket to DPI be sure to provide as much information as possible. This will decrease the turnaround time on your tickets for the issues you submit.
    • Always include your name and contact information on your ticket.
    • Be as specific as possible in your ticket – for example: don’t say “I need to install a printer”… instead say, “I need to install a Lexmark MS621dn Desktop Monochrome Laser Printer.” Including the make and model of the device cuts down on back and forth with DPI and gets your new tech installed faster.
    • Have questions about recommended tech to purchase – get in touch with CISHR.
  • There are a lot of phishing scams that are starting to pop up, so please be aware and do not click on any suspicious links. Email Bobbie Jo Ray if you are unsure.  Some things to remember:
    • All voicemails to the Central Office go to Sabine Jones, and if it is for you, then you will get an email directly from Sabine with the attached voicemail. We do not use an outside provider.
    • No one in the agency will request that you purchase anything. Please confirm any requests of this nature by directly calling the individual that it appears is requesting this of you.
    • If you want to change your direct deposit, HR will confirm this with you over the phone after the request is made to ensure you are the person requesting the change.
Central Office
  • Remember to contact Sabine Jones, Office Manager, to reserve any of the conference rooms for use.
  • We have a tenant occupying the Finance Wing of the building. Please be courteous of noise levels and overall space sharing.  If you have questions, reach out to Sabine Jones.
Finance
Please submit all expense reports weekly, not monthly.
PROGRAM OPERATIONS
  • Kansas DCF Grant 2-year renewal received – This grant renewal keeps DCF funding of our Kansas sites in place through June 2024. It’s the high-quality work of all our departments, starting with Program Operations, that allows us to maintain our standing as a programmatic partner that has proven itself a highly effective use of TANF funds supporting Kansas families in need. Congratulations to the whole team!!

    • Rachel H (formerly South): Team Inspire

DEVELOPMENT
  • Who You Gonna Call - How many of you started singing the Ghostbusters song when you saw the title of this blurb? If so, you would be in good company. The Development Team has updated its contact sheet.  Check out the attached PDF to learn who serves on the Development Team, their roles, and an overview of primary responsibilities. Who do you reach out to about in-kind donations? What email should you use if you have a general development inquiry? Who oversees all of our special events and fundraisers? All of that information and more can be found by clicking here.
  • Bo’s Hog Wild BBQ & Kidsfest - In two weeks we will be celebrating the 35th Annual Bo’s Hog Wild BBQ, Brewfest & Kidsfest. CIS of Mid-America is once again a beneficiary and poised to receive more than $15,000 in funds raised from this outdoor event in rural Douglas County featuring free kids’ activities, a BBQ, and two live bands. Are you free on August 27th and interested in volunteering? We could use your help. We are one of four agencies organizing the event and are responsible for volunteer check-in for all activities. We’re also looking for volunteers to staff other activities during the event. If you’re interested in volunteering at the CIS Volunteer Check-in tent, click on this link. If you’re interested in volunteering in another capacity at the event, click here.

CELEBRATIONS
  • August Employee of the Month: Anna Douglas-Rose, Vice President of Financial Compliance & Human Resources.  Here's what the nominator had to say about Anna:
“Throughout the entire interviewing and new hire process, Anna has showed professionalism, positivity and perseverance… she has been such a tremendous help throughout this "hiring season!" From conducting initial phone screens, to organizing and scheduling interview details with candidates, to the final offer; all while making herself available to answer questions and offer her insights and perspectives, etc. Her hard work and efforts this summer to assist with all of the hirings throughout the agency have not gone unnoticed.”

Congratulations, Anna!
