Waters Families,

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday morning! Please remember that Campbell will be closed to cars in front of the school. We are encouraging everyone to walk or bike to and from school next week, if at all possible.

Families have been receiving multiple emails directly from the district regarding COVID. Waters will continue to update the COVID Guidance on waterselementary.org as needed.

Please see this information about the Circle of Help, which is a volunteer group that provides assistance to Waters families who need support.

We are also still in need of a coach for the 5/6th Boys Soccer team. Please contact Mr. Archer if you are interested.

With kindness,
Mr. R.

STUDENT DROP OFF/PICKUP BY GRADE LEVEL

Students will arrive and be picked up at the same door:

  • Arrival is at 8:15 AM
  • Kindergarten parents ONLY may come up to the classroom with their students on Monday.
  • Dismissal is at 3:15 PM
  • Students PK-3rd Grade will ONLY be dismissed to a caregiver

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

We had hoped to be able to share more information about fall after school programming this week, but will relay information as soon as we have it. A lottery will be used to offer students spots for programs that have more interest than capacity.

ECOLOGY & GARDEN

Please see the focus for each grade level for Environmental Science. Each student K-8th will have this essentials class either in the first or fourth quarter, depending on which homeroom they are in.

  • Kindergarten - Intro to Gardening
  • First Grade - Seeds
  • Second Grade - Pollinators and Cycles
  • Third Grade - Becoming Soil Scientists
  • Fourth Grade - Vermicomposting
  • Fifth Grade - Composting
  • Sixth Grade - Rain Gardens
  • Seventh Grade - Native Plants
  • Eighth Grade - Water Treatment

Second grade and seventh grade will continue with their usual field trips this year to the river and lake. We are currently working on field trips for other grade levels and will share more information as plans become solidified.

Our Environmental Science teacher, Ms. Rovito, will also serve as the main point of contact on the Waters staff for the school garden moving forward.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES FROM ALD MARTIN'S OFFICE:

  • Campbell/Artesian Water Main Replacement: All the pipes have been installed and crews just need to transfer buildings' services to the new mains before they can leave. They will work on the 4500 block of Campbell starting Monday. This will take no more than a week and they will be out of your hair. They'll move to 4400 Campbell, then Artesian.

  • Wilson Ave Resurfacing: CDOT will be repaving Wilson in front of the school (Campbell to Maplewood). As of this morning, they are now planning to mill (remove) the asphalt on Wednesday 8/24. We have emphasized to them that this is in front of a school and they must proceed accordingly. Paving will follow ~3 weeks later.

  • Montrose Resurfacing: The street will be paved in another 2-3 weeks. After that, striping lane markings should be the last step.
