Community Foundation Awards Grants
Williamsport Backpack Program

The Warren County Community Foundation awarded $1,500 from the Warren County Hunger Fund to the Williamsport Backpack program.  Williamsport Elementary School partners with Hickman Heights Church.  Church members prepare the backpacks weekly.  Currently, 24 bags are packed weekly with a box of cereal, a mail course, can of vegetables, can of fruit, ramen noodles, and 2 snack items.  Students take these food items home for the weekend.  The Foundation is happy to partner with Williamsport Elementary School and Hickman Heights Church on this project .

Pine Village Backpack Program

The Foundation also awarded $1,500 from the Warren County Hunger Fund to the Pine Village Backpack Program.  Pine Village student council members fill the bags each Thursday during their recess time.  Each bag has a box of cereal, a main course, a can of vegetables, a can of fruit, ramen noodles, a side dish, a snack item, and once a month a box of milk.  There are currently 25 bags packed per week.  To fund an entire year, it takes $8,000. Many residents assist with bringing monthly food donations.  The Foundation is happy to partner with Pine Village Elementary School on this project.

Warren County Soil and Water Conversation District

The Foundation awarded a $1,500 grant to the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District.  This grant will be used for two separate upcoming events.  A Women 4 the Land event will take place with as many as 30 local women landowners taking part.  Then a Pond Management workshop will take place to help local residents with their own ponds learn more about how to take care of their pond.  The interest in this program has been very high with as many as 50 attendees expected.
