Tory Leon Green, the wunderkind, enjoys playing drums and is ready to start his own YouTube channel! If you've had the pleasure of having a conversation with him, you know he's extremely sharp, witty, and has a way with words. On top of that, Tory is a caring individual who loves spending time with his sister, Tyla, and his brother, Tylan.
Being his mother's child, he enjoys reading and writing, two of the reasons why he is one year ahead in school. When he's not reading or drumming, Tory loves Spiderman and can be seen pretending to shoot webs at any "villain" who crosses his path. The joy he brings to Family Life is only one reason why it is our pleasure to name Tory Green the August member of the month.

Louis Weathers had a stable job and was married when he decided to buy a home in the Chicago suburb of Evanston in 1959 -- but high interest rates and White real estate agents who seemed adamant about keeping him and other Black residents out of certain neighborhoods nearly discouraged him.
More than six decades later, the 87-year-old received a payout to make up for the discriminatory housing practices that he and other Black residents experienced between 1919 and 1969.
After three years in the making, Evanston gave Weathers and 15 other Black residents $25,000 each in May to put toward a down payment on a home, mortgages or home repairs.
Like Weathers, generations of Black Americans have faced disparities in housing, transportation, business and other areas. And as descendants of enslaved people many say they have not been compensated for their labor and the lingering effects of systemic racism.

What is Literacy Missions? It is a subsection of the North Americans Mission Board’s (NAMB) Send Relief Ministry. One of our very own has made history with NAMB by first becoming an Adult Reading and Writing tutor, followed by becoming a Workshop Leader in the same track and finally reaching the top level of National Trainer. Annetta “NettieBee” Willis is the youngest National Trainer in the entire country and only one of two African American National Trainers with NAMB. Congratulations NettieBee! How the Fall Affected Evangelism
David wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).
Jesus responded to the Pharisees, when they told him, “Teacher rebuke your disciples,” by saying, “I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out” (Luke 19:10).
We learn something extremely important about creation in these two verses. We learn that creation, by its very nature, is an evangelist. The heavens “declare,” the expanse “proclaims,” and the rocks “cry out” in an act of praise to its Creator.
If creation is, by its nature, an evangelist, then it would only stand to reason that human beings — by their very nature — should be considered evangelists as well.
The pandemic has had a major, negative impact on the air travel industry, leaving travelers in a quandary about where to spend their next vacation. During this decision making process, varied tips from several sources can aid our wayfaring friends on the best place to go with the best economical cost. For the believer, single or otherwise, on our travel towards heaven, the price of admission all comes down to making a proper decision. The relevant topic of making better decisions was the subject of one of this month's SAS sessions held on Mondays via Zoom.
The evening began with an engaging decision making quiz. Dea-Elect Thomas Green then encouraged those in attendance that the better we get at decision making, the more apt we are to please God. Deas. Trunaé Green gave the attendants tips on better decision making which include: being kind, weighing out, and being intentional with the words that we speak. Dea-Elect Thomas Green then ended the evening by bringing out the point that we should strive to be the antidote to the toxin of worldliness in someone's life. With that, the evening concluded.

The White House is moving ahead with plans to launch a COVID-19 booster campaign in September using a vaccine modified for the omicron sub-variants sweeping the country. The updated vaccine will specifically target the BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants of omicron, which are currently circulating and fueling a new increase in hospitalizations. The announcement marks an acceleration of previous plans, as the reformulated vaccine was not expected to be ready for distribution until at least October.
As we still bask in the new year, this is a great time to designate your "reading spot"! Now I know you are probably wondering, 'what is a reading spot'? Simply put, it's a place you have created to get cozy behind a book. It is the spot you have created just for reading. This month I am sharing 4 Tips on creating the perfect reading spot!
1. Your reading spot should be in a quiet place. This may be a place in your home, such as a corner in a room, the closet, or even the garage. It can also be a place outdoors. Find what works for you!
2. Once you have chosen the space, make it cozy. You want your area to feel warm and inviting. Adding a few throw pillows, a throw blanket, and a nice rug can help create that comfortable space. You can even add a comfortable chair or bean bag. Choose what works best for you.
3. Next, put your favorite books and current reads in that space. It will help remind you that it is your reading spot, and you'll always know where to find your recent books.
4. Lastly, grab your favorite drink, head to your reading spot, and start reading!

What do you know about Big Joe?? The Couples Are Partners Date night crew found out that Big Joe’s Bar and Grill can serve up a mean chicken wing, mahi mahi, and shrimp taco! We enjoyed delicious appetizers and delectable nuggets of truth in between bites.
We learned about the three levels of commitment that give balance and dedication to a marriage. According to Temple (2003) the three types are:
Personal Commitment - also known as “I Want To”
Moral Commitment - also known as “I Ought To”
Structural Commitment -also known as “I Have To”
Our facilitators, Bishops A.T. & Rosemary Lands, shared the fact that all three come together to create a great level of commitment, yet if personal commitment is lacking, the love aspect of marriage suffers.
The couples shared ways to keep commitment strong as well as tricks the enemy may use against each marriage. Failing to forgive one another’s transgressions is one sure way to water down the marital commitment.
The couples enjoyed the Big Joe experience and look forward to our next outing which will be our Vegas Marriage Retreat from August 18th - 21st!
