The Pierce County Library System and the City of Lakewood want to hear from you!
Please take this five-minute survey to help add to outreach conducted in 2019, prior to the pandemic. Your responses will be instrumental in understanding community priorities in 2022. Please share your opinion now through August 19.

Lakewood Library Community Advisory Committee Meeting

The Lakewood Library Buildings Community Advisory Committee will review additional community input and consider facility options when the volunteer committee next meets virtually in September.
The committee is charged with the following:
- Understanding public input from 2019.
- Assessing public input gathered this summer in surveys, interviews, and at public events.
- Reviewing the significant building needs.
- Providing advice to the Library System about how it could best provide library services for Lakewood.
For the Lakewood Pierce County Library, the committee is expected to recommend whether to:
- Retain the current facility.
- Build a new library on a different site.
- Build a new library on the current site.
- Renovate another building elsewhere in the community.
For the Tillicum Pierce County Library, the committee is expected to recommend whether to:
- Retain the current facility.
- Build a new library on a different site.
The committee is projected to give its recommendation to the Library Board of Trustees and City Council in fall 2022. The Board of Trustees will determine next steps.

Temporary location update and upcoming events

The Pierce County Library System is preparing to offer service in a temporary location, after the Lakewood Pierce County Library on Wildaire Road S.W., closed June 5, 2022, because of the critical condition of the building.
The Library System continues to serve the community and determine a better long-term solution to invest in library service for Lakewood residents.
Throughout the summer, the Library System has served you and the Lakewood community with Summer Reading classes and events, for people of all ages.
In the coming months, the Library System plans to offer pop-up libraries with community partners throughout Lakewood. You can check out books, movies and other materials as well as enjoy classes and events at the pop-up libraries. Watch for locations and dates on the Library’s website at lakewoodlib.pcls.us. As always, the Library System continues to provide books and materials directly to childcare centers as well as adult care facilities in Lakewood. These services continue to be very valued.
