As the Cost of Living crisis hits individuals and organisations, we've dedicated a section of our Funding Bulletin to specific funds and guidance which we hope will be of assistance to those struggling.
The Henry Smith Charity's Strengthening Communities Programme

The Strengthening Communities grant programme aims to support small, grass roots organisations who are embedded in the community, working within the most deprived areas of the UK. Through this grant programme they want to make sure that their funding reaches organisations that provide services which are widely accessible to the whole community and respond to, and address the needs of the people living in it.

They fund established organisations with a track record of delivering services directly to beneficiaries and want to fund work that enables:

  • People from across the community to participate in activities which improve connectedness, opportunities and wellbeing
  • People who are excluded, vulnerable or facing other forms of hardship to have access to community-based services that support positive lasting change
  • A stronger, active, more engaged community

Funding: Between £20,000 and £60,000 per year for 1-3 years. Funding can be used to support running costs.

Deadline: Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis.

The National Lottery Community Fund – Climate Action Fund
Climate Action Fund

This funding aims to help communities across the UK to address climate change.

They’re looking for projects that focus on the link between nature and climate. They want to fund projects that use nature to encourage more community-led climate action. TNL expect these projects to bring other important social and economic benefits, like the creation of strong, resilient and healthy communities or the development of ‘green’ skills and jobs.

They’re interested in projects that can do at least one of the following:

  • show how creating a deeper connection with nature will lead to changing people’s behaviours and greater care for the environment
  • show how by bringing nature back into the places we live and work, we can help communities to reduce or adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Deadline: Ongoing

Funding: Up to £1.5 million over 2 to 5 years, with most projects between £300,000 and £500,000. Development grants of £50,000 to £150,000 over 12 to 18 months.
