MOVE ! Body Politics in Motion

Met MOVE ! Body Politics in Motion zoomt MU t/m 18 september in op de bevrijdende kracht van het dansende lichaam. De expositie wordt omringd door een speciaal randprogramma vol bijzondere performances, installaties, workshops, een PLASMA avond en meer. Je leest er alles over in deze nieuwsbrief.
Wie danst beweegt en wie beweegt verandert. Iedereen die danst zet de wereld om zich heen in beweging en geeft uitdrukking aan wat hen bezighoudt. Samen dansen is een bron van energie en ontlading, plezier en protest.
Van rave tot ballroom, van peepshow tot festival, van TikTok tot street parade; hoe en waar we dansen draagt bij aan wie we zijn. Dansen is een universeel ritueel van alle tijden, een dynamische expressie van identiteit, een fysieke uiting die tegelijk kwetsbaar en oersterk is. Beweging spreekt de non-verbale taal van ritme en emotie. Juist in tijden van ingrijpende veranderingen en grote crises kan dans onze lichamen in alle eenheid en diversiteit laten spreken.

Dansend de nacht door in MU
|
|
|
In de eerste weken van september heeft MU een aantal special events voor je in petto. We trappen af met twee sfeervolle performances tijdens de Nacht van Strijp-S van zaterdag 3 op zondag 4 september: een etmaal vol muziek, performances en kunst verspreid over Strijp-S, en een markt met vintage & food op het Ketelhuisplein.
Naast de expositie MOVE ! bezoek je MU tot diep in de nacht voor verschillende performances die gedurende de avond plaatsvinden. Zanger/performer Ariah Lester brengt rond 22.00 uur de sfeervolle muzikale solo somewhere between drag, opera and reggaeton. Kijk om een indruk te krijgen van hun aanstekelijke passie even op Instagram voor een sneak peek.
Daarnaast word je rond middernacht in andere sferen gebracht door de licht- en geluidsperformance Dream Release, een gloednieuwe samenwerking tussen de Amsterdamse kunstenaar/activist Bambi van Balen en singer-songwriter/danser OTION. Dit collectief droomexperiment beleefde onlangs z’n première bij Q21 in Wenen als onderdeel van de residentie-periode van beide kunstenaars. Het optreden in Eindhoven is het tweede met publiek en belooft een bijzondere nachtelijke ervaring. Licht, ritme en de vibratie van de stem brengen je liggend lichaam in een staat van beweging. Sluit je ogen en laat je meevoeren van je dromen naar de kosmos. De samenwerking van Bambi en OTION is onderdeel van de expo No Dancing Allowed in Q21, gecureerd door kunstenaar Bogomir Doringer wiens werk I Dance Alone te zien is in MOVE !.

Vrijdag 16 t/m zondag 18 september

Als knallende afsluiter van MOVE ! en opmaat voor een nieuw cultureel seizoen biedt MU het weekend van 16 t/m 18 september een aantal speciale programma’s.
Vrijdagavond 16 september is de vloer voor MOVE ! co-curator Jess Øberlin en haar PLASMA collectief. Zoals zij onlangs op Milkshake Festival een hele hal lieten golven, zullen ze ook MU laten vibreren – met een clubnight vol interactieve dialogen, pop-up fashion en vogueing performances waarna de PLASMA dj’s losgaan tot in de late uren.
Op zaterdag 17 en zondag 18 september is techno DJ Vera Logdanidi uit Kyiv, Oekraïne bij MU te gast voor de première van haar eerste audiovisuele installatie. Gedurende twee dagen geeft zij hiermee op de meest actuele wijze invulling aan de politieke dimensie van Body politics in motion – door haar muziek te verbinden met haar persoonlijke ervaringen sinds het begin van de oorlog in haar thuisland. MU is ook op zaterdagavond open voor deze installatie.

Gratis rondleiding voor docenten & educatoren

Een nieuwe expo betekent dat het weer tijd is voor een Meet Me @ MU! Verken op woensdag 7 september van 16.00 - 17.30 de tentoonstelling en ontdek hoe je de werken kunt bespreken met je leerlingen of studenten. Daarnaast gaan we met elkaar het gesprek aan over hoe je beweging en dans kunt behandelen, of zelfs integreren, in je curriculum.
Leerkrachten, docenten en onderwijsmakers van alle niveaus en opleidingstypes zijn welkom. Meld je aan door een mailtje te sturen naar educatie@mu.nl.
Kom je terug met je klas? Dan bezoeken je leerlingen de expo gratis onder begeleiding van hun eigen docent. Je kunt er ook voor kiezen om een rondleiding of workshop te boeken: samen bekijken we de mogelijkheden voor een passend programma.

Reproduction Otherwise
MU opent haar deuren voor Reproduction Otherwise op vrijdag 7 oktober vanaf 20.00. Met deze expositie, die ook tijdens DDW te zien is, zoomen we vanuit queer perspectieven in op drastische mutaties en veranderende machtsverhoudingen rondom menselijke reproductie en de vele actuele discussies die daarover te voeren zijn.

Those who dance move and those who move change. Everyone who dances sets the world around them in motion and expresses what moves them. Dancing together is a source of energy and release, pleasure and protest.
From rave to ballroom, from peepshow to festival, from TikTok to street parade; how and where we dance contributes to who we are. Dancing is a universal ritual of all times, a dynamic expression of identity, a physical manifestation that is both vulnerable and extremely strong. Movement speaks the non-verbal language of rhythm and emotion. Especially in times of radical changes and major crises, dance can allow our bodies to speak in all their unity and diversity.

Dance the night away at MU
|
|
|
In the first weeks of September, MU has a number of special events in store for you. We kick off with two mesmerizing performances during De Nacht van Strijp-S (The Night of Strijp-S) from Saturday 3 to Sunday 4 September: drop by for 24-hours packed with music, performances and art at Strijp-S, and a market with vintage & food at Ketelhuisplein.
Besides the exhibition MOVE !, you can visit MU till late at night for various performances that will take place throughout the evening. Around 22.00, singer/performer Ariah Lester will perform their musical solo somewhere between drag, opera and reggaeton. Check Instagram for a sneak peek of their work.
Around midnight you will be transported into other spheres by the light and sound performance Dream Release, a brand new collab between Amsterdam-based artist/activist Bambi van Balen and singer-songwriter/ dancer OTION. The collective dream experiment recently had its premiere at Q21 in Vienna as part of the residency of both artists. The performance in Eindhoven is the second one with an audience and promises a special nightly experience. Light, rhythm and the vibration of the voice will bring your lying body in a state of movement. Close your eyes and get carried away from your dreams to the cosmos. Bambi and OTION's collaboration is part of the exhibition No Dancing Allowed at Q21, curated by artist Bogomir Doringer whose work I Dance Alone is currently on show at MU.

Friday 16 till Sunday 18 September

As a smashing ending to the exhibition MOVE ! and a prelude to a new cultural season, MU offers a number of exciting programs during the weekend of 16 to 18 September.
On Friday night 16 September, MU welcomes MOVE ! co-curator Jess Øberlin and her PLASMA collective. As they recently made an entire hall undulate at Milkshake Festival, they will also make MU vibrate - with a club night full of interactive dialogues, pop up fashion and vogueing performances after which the PLASMA djs will play some electrifying tunes.
On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September, MU will host techno DJ Vera Logdanidi from Kyiv, Ukraine, for the premiere of her first audiovisual installation. For two days, she will be giving a contemporary interpretation to the political dimension of Body politics in motion - by linking her music to her personal experiences since the start of the war in her homeland. MU will also be open for this installation on Saturday evening.

Reproduction Otherwise
MU opens her doors for Reproduction Otherwise on Friday 7 October from 20.00. With this exhibition, also on show during DDW, we zoom in on drastic mutations and changing power relations surrounding human reproduction from queer perspectives, and the many current discussions surrounding this topic.
