National Convention Recap 

 
July 25-30, 2022 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette
 
As always, NJCL Convention was a huge success for the Georgia, both individually and as a delegation!
  • A massive shoutout to Shriya Mahakala for becoming our National JCL Communications Coordinator!
  • Georgia did amazing in spirit, placing 2nd in the Large States division.
  • Delegates from our state won top awards in academic testing, creative arts, graphic arts, and Olympika. A huge congratulations to William Zhou for placing 10th in overall sweepstakes and 4th in overall academics.
  • Our Intermediate Certamen team placed third, and the Advanced Certamen team placed seventh. William Zhou also earned the title of Intermediate Certamen MVP.
  • We are extremely excited to be hosting the 2023 National JCL Convention at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia! Please watch our promo video for Emory NatCon here.

MAC

1st VP Jacob Sung has opened applications for the GJCL Membership Advisory Committee, which will be due on September 15th. This is a great opportunity for everyone to get more involved in growing the GJCL and hosting various events through the year. If you are interested, please apply through this form and contact jacobsungx1@gmail.com with any questions!

Praetoria 

Praetoria is an event designed to familiarize local officers and members with JCL leadership, including running for state office and the various parts of running a JCL chapter. This year, it will be held virtually through Zoom on September 24-25th. The Fax will be released soon, so look out for that with your chapter sponsor or on the GJCL social media. Fall Forum 

Fall Forum this year will happen at Wheeler High School on October 15th, 2022. This is a one-day event (a mini-State Con) where you can attend colloquia sessions, take academic tests, and compete in/watch certamen. Registration and the fax will be available mid-September, so please keep an eye out for that from your chapter advisor. We can't wait to see you there!

Alae Submissions 

For the Fall 2022 Edition

Our Editor Aran Sonnad-Joshi is collecting submissions for the Fall 2022 Alae Contest! Please fill out this form with your articles by September 15th to enter. All submissions to the Alae Mercurii will automatically be entered into the seasonal Alae Contest. All submissions detailing winter events will be featured in the upcoming winter issue, in which winners will also be announced. For questions, please email editor@gjcl.org.

Calling all JCL chapters! The NJCL hosts a monthly contest for local chapters to submit their events/meetings, and chapters with the most outstanding meetings are recognized! Please use this link to submit the form and contact vp2@njcl.org with any questions you may have!

Minutes 

On May 15, 2022, the GJCL board and sponsors held a meeting to discuss the logistics of the National Convention and facilitate office turnover. You can find the full minutes here. All future meeting minutes will be posted on the website under "About GJCL" and sent in this newsletter.
