Pitkin County COVID-19 Communications, Moving to Monthly Update and Important Announcements
We are evolving communications to keep in step with the dwindling pandemic and the weekly cadence of the CDC’s Community Level announcement. Thus, We will now release our updates once a month, on the first Tuesday of the month. For pertinent information that needs to be communicated in a timely manner, we will be sending out newsflash style updates if needed. Look forward to the next update in your inbox on Tuesday, September 6th.

CDC COVID-19 Community Level Moves to Low
In the past week, Pitkin County moved from High to Low due to our incidence rate decreasing below 200 per 100,000 residents, and the AVH capacity level remains at “comfortable". Because of the change, we wanted to remind people how the level is determined. This CDC metric is based on three pieces of data: incidence rates, county COVID-19 hospital admission rates, and beds occupied by COVID-19 patients in the last 7 days. Using these data, the level is classified as low, medium, or high. COVID-19 Community Levels can help communities and individuals make decisions based on their local context and their unique needs as it measures the impact of the virus on health and healthcare systems. To stay up-to-date on the current level in Pitkin County, check the CDC Community Levels website  on Thursdays after 6pm.

CDC Isolation COVID-19 Change
Recently, the CDC modified their Quarantine and Isolation guidance. Isolation remains mandatory for a minimum of 5 days after symptom onset or positive test. However, on day 6 if no fever is present and symptoms improve, an individual should continue to use a mask in public until day 10. Individuals who are not symptomatic after day 6 are allowed to unmask earlier than day 10 if 2 antigen tests taken 48hrs apart both contain a negative result. CDC still recommends any individual who tests positive to avoid contact with high risk individuals for at least 11 days. Quarantine for routine contacts is no longer recommended or required, this may, however, still be used as a mitigation strategy if an outbreak occurs, especially if necessary in a school setting. Pitkin County Public Health is working with schools to update requirements and guidance with the start of the school year.
