September 2022
SLC Fire Chief Karl Lieb
SLC Fire is excited to officially announce our new Community Health Access Team (CHAT). CHAT pairs social workers with Salt Lake City's firefighter EMTs and paramedics, which allows us to connect with and help an increasing number of community members who are experiencing issues beyond the scope of traditional EMS. CHAT will respond to specific types of calls for emergency assistance which will benefit most from the knowledge and skillset of social workers. Our ultimate goal is to interrupt the cycle in which patients who are unnecessarily sent to the emergency room by directing them to more appropriate resources. Our team will work with patients to develop short- and long-term plans to address their unique needs, utilizing the services provided by our partners throughout the community. This new resource will improve SLC Fire's ability to support our diverse community and the different types of needs reflected throughout. Look for CHAT members who will be out and about in Salt Lake City beginning September 6, 2022!
