Every year the Captains of Astbury Golf Club put a huge amount or work, into raising money for their designated charity. This year the beneficiary of this herculean effort is The Christie Charitable Fund, with all the money raised going to support the new Christie Hospital in Macclesfield.
This new regional cancer centre will provide appointments and treatments to patients much closer to their homes and it is anticipated it will transform cancer care locally for more than 1500 patients a year. Before the construction of this centre, patients travelled to South Manchester for treatment, putting a great deal of pressure on them and their families at an already stressful time.
The team from the Christie Charitable Fund were present throughout the day. The Chairman of the Christie Congleton Support Group Pat McDonnell who has been known to firewalk when raising money for the fund, her support team of Caroline Firth and volunteer Mary Murphy offered information advice and a friendly smile to all plus the opportunity to buy a memento of the day.
Playing in teams of four with mixed categories able to play, the main competition was won by D Evans, L Evans, S Kerrigan and J Kerrigan with 97 points. Coming second also with 97 points were M Taylor, I Hassall, A Grocott and P Hancock in third and forth places with 95 points were the teams of J Andrews, C Andrews, J Statham and I Clarke. followed by D Stevens P Richards R Webb and M Gibbons. Club Pro Daniel Bills can be seen on the 10th Tee where each of the 45 teams competing were invited to participate in the Pro Challenge. Daniel raised £420 for the charity over the day. A great result for Daniel and the Charity.
