Abrazos Selected for United Way       Day of Caring - Sandoval County

Please join us
Saturday, September 17, from 9 am - Noon

Day of Caring is United Way's largest nationwide volunteer day in which citizens can make a difference in their communities. United Way of Central New Mexico will be involved in ten different projects in their five-county region (Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Torrance, and Valencia). Individuals can sign up to participate as a volunteer and support a local nonprofit.

Abrazos is proud to be the nonprofit entity selected in Sandoval County. Our project consists of enhancing the landscaping on our campus in Bernalillo by clearing weeds, leveling of the grounds, and spreading gravel. This will improve accessibility and safety for everyone visiting or working Abrazos' campus.

Anderson Foundation Supports Hiring Initiative

With 1 in every 6 children in the state of New Mexico diagnosed with a developmental disability or delay, the need for Abrazos' services is strong.  This demand is compounded by the lack of service providers.
The Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation has been a supporter of Abrazos' efforts to improve the lives of children with disabilities and their families for several years. "We are fortunate that this year they are partnering with us to strengthen our recruitment and retention efforts by providing a $20,000 matching grant for our career development strategy created to attain higher standards in skills and competencies," stated April Spaulding, Abrazos' Executive Director.
This strategy consists of 12-months of extended clinical learning focused on continuous learning, peer-to-peer mentoring and training, interdisciplinary coaching, reflective supervision, and the provision of high quality services in families homes and community settings.

Abrazos’ goal is to invest a full year in developing highly knowledgeable and highly experienced service providers that are confident and capable in their ability to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. "We want our service providers to feel valued, be better able to address the needs of those they serve, and more resilient to second-hand trauma. We believe this career development strategy will strengthen our recruitment and retention efforts and will provide new employees with exceptional skills and knowledge," concluded April.

Thank You for the Community Support

Our sincere appreciation to Albertsons Market - Enchanted Hills, for donating an outdoor table and chairs to be used for our universal accessibility campus.
