Last night Rawe attended Mīharo Art Exhibition & Awards Night. They entered their 3D Atua in the exhibition named “Legends of our Lands” - Our People, Our Places, Our Stories.
We are proud to announce they won the “Kaitiaki” award and received a trophy, a certificate with amazing comments and feedback, plus a gift card. Thank you to the families that attended the event last night.
Tino pai Rawe and thank you Miharo Murihiku!

The Mīharo Exhibition is open for viewing at Mīharo, 28 Don Street from Friday the 6th of August until Friday the 30th of September.
Tuesday – Friday 10:00am – 4:30pm
Saturday – 10:00am – 2:00pm
We wish to send a warm welcome to Thomas, Ria, Lucie, Isla, Drew, Amari, Ralph and Hayley who have started in Matai this term and also to Ella in Rawe and Wesley in Akotoa! Welcome to our Myross Bush School family!
Nominations for Myross Bush School Values Award last week were:

Amelia Lindsay for Kotahitanga “Getting along together.” Amelia is consistently kind and thoughtful in class and she exemplifies what a good friend is. She notices when others need help and has a calm and gentle manner of supporting them. You are a star, Amelia.

Liam Corson for Whakapai Ake “Be the best you can be.” Liam, you are following teacher instructions and completing the work that is set for you. You have been working very hard to solve problems, and the growth in your attitude to class is incredible! You should be very proud of yourself - your teachers certainly are!

Benji McDonald for Whakapai Ake “Be the best you can be.”  Benji, you have started the term with a 'can do' attitude. You step up to new challenges and persist when tasks get hard. It has been fantastic to watch you achieve your goals!

Bryn Coe for Kotahitanga “Getting along together.” Bryn is a wonderful friend to all of the students at Myross Bush School. He is a caring Big Buddy and role model to younger students, and can be relied upon to make people feel welcome in our classroom. Ka pai Bryn!

Stevie Dickens for Kotahitanga “Getting along together.” Stevie, you are such a kind friend to everyone in Rawe and have been helpful to our new students. You support them and are a great role model in how hard you work in class. Tino Pai!

River Paterson for Te Papa Atawhai “Reduce, reuse, recycle, restore and replenish.” River you are a fantastic helper at tidy up time and any other time you see work needs to be done. You start straight away and carry on till the end. You are an amazing role model.

The Values trophy was awarded to:
Nate Blair for Whakapai Ake “Be the best you can be.” Nate is an enthusiastic learner who comes to workshops with a can-do attitude. He carefully listens to feedback from his teachers and sets out to apply it and improve on his learning.  Keep up the good work Nate!
On 29 July parents were notified (via Hero) of the upcoming 3 Way Conferences scheduled for Thursday 11 and Friday 12 August.

If you have not booked your 3 Way Conference CLICK HERE and insert the code 2jdve If you have any problems, please let the Office know.

Key points to remember:

  1. This process is part of our Mid Term Reporting.
  2. Children are expected to attend with their parents.
  3. Waiting rooms will be set up inside classrooms adjacent to the conference room.
  4. Conferences last for 10mins and have an optional extra 5mins at the end if you wish to discuss matters privately without your child.
  5. A school bell will indicate transition times.
On Friday 12 August, 3 Way Conferences will be held throughout the day therefore students will remain at home unless they are attending with their parents. Thank you for your support with this.
During Term 2 I was fortunate to be given a Principal's Sabbatical that included study and rest. The study focused on diving deeper into the exciting work we are doing in Akotoa (Year 5 + 6) called "In-Class Flipped Learning."

If you are interested in the outcome CLICK HERE to view a short video and my final Sabbatical Report.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Diane Walker for stepping so well into my shoes, and Mel Lemin and Anna Erskine for all the extra work they admirably performed in my absence.
Garden Club
During Term 2 we started Garden Club back up. Every Tuesday afternoon I have been
coming in and taking a small group of children from a different class each week, to do
gardening-based activities. The kids have been thoroughly enjoying it and are always
eager to join in. The intention is that all children will get an opportunity to participate in
the Garden Club, if they want to.
Last term we:
  • Harvested and sold our tomato crop
  • Cleaned out the tunnel house and laid bricks on the path (thanks for the donation of bricks)
  • Processed excess rhubarb from my garden and sold stewed rhubarb and rhubarb fizz - YUM
  • Revived the worm farm and compost tumbler
  • Started some of our spring seedling
My favourite quote so far was from Ethan (Rawe), when he was laying bricks for the tunnel
house path - "Yah! We get to do learning with our hands today."

We’re always on the lookout for pots, punnets (any shape/size) and wool insulation sheets from my food bag, etc (they’re great for keeping weeds down). We also hope to get 2 more raised beds in this year so each class can have a dedicated garden to care for - if you have any spare timber or basic building skills you’d like to donate please get in touch.

On 28 July we notified families (via Hero) that we were withdrawing from Kindo and moving all family accounts back into Hero. This process is nearly complete with the remainder of accounts that had credit being brought across.

If you have any questions please email Irene at office@myrossbush.school.nz
Notifying Absences
It is really important for families to advise the school prior to 8.55am if your child is going to be absent and the reason why (sick, medical appointment, etc). Every school is required to code and report absences to the Ministry of Education. Contacting the school saves valuable time in the morning for staff. You can ring the office 2304817 and use the absence extn (press 2) or go to the absence option on HERO before 8.55am. Thank you.
Tips:
  1. The Ministry of Health has recently published the following "Winter Wellness Guide" to support families this winter. CLICK HERE to view it
  2. You can now collect free masks at sites in Invercargill. CLICK HERE to view them.

We are looking for some homes or gardens for the Tour set for November 6th 2022.
If you can think of anyone who might be open to allowing us to enter their house in this fundraiser can you either approach them or message Jodie Rutledge their details.
We also thought we could add a "Mens Shed" section on the tour if you know of any cool spots. :)
Lucky Book Club order forms went home last week and will close next Friday the 12th of August. Please remember online orders only and no cash if possible please. Any questions please contact myself or Karen Botting planet-karen@hotmail.com
