Success Story: Luna

This is Luna, a 5-year-old Chihuahua. Luna had babies in May, and in the middle of July she did not want to walk – but what was really alarming was that Luna suddenly started urinating blood. Her mom knew she needed to get her to a veterinarian immediately.

At the vet it was discovered that poor Luna had a pretty terrible urinary tract infection. This was causing Luna severe discomfort, which is why she wasn't wanting to walk, and causing the blood in her urine. Some common UTI symptoms include:
  • Potty accidents in the house
  • Needing to be let outside for potty breaks more frequently
  • Bloody and/or cloudy urine
  • Straining or whimpering during urination
  • Licking around the urinary opening
Luna's mom only has one income, and had some other unplanned expenses the month before, so she didn't know how she was going to pay for Luna's visit. She applied to Fur Kids Foundation for assistance with Luna’s emergency veterinary care.

After a full exam and medication, Luna is expected to make a full recovery. Read more about signs your pet may have a UTI here.

Whether your dog’s symptoms are just a UTI or something more, it’s important to find out for sure. If your dog is exhibiting UTI symptoms, Fur Kids Foundation encourages you to call your veterinarian sooner rather than later.
