Between August 10th and 11th, the workshop ‘El impacto de los medios de comunicación sociales en la comunicación política de la ciudadanía’ took place at the HCLA in Santiago de Chile, co-organized by HCIAS Junior Professor Pablo Porten-Cheé. The event aimed to discuss international perspectives on communication studies relevant to the analysis of contemporary phenomena and problems that arise with the use of social media and that affect information, interaction, and citizen participation.

On September 31st HCIAS director Professor Francisco Moreno Fernández participated in the virtual round table '"Diálogos del Bicentenario de las Relaciones Diplomáticas México-Estados Unidos" with Professor Pedro Martín Butragueño (Colegio de México). At the event, both linguists established a new dialogue about Spanish from the perspective of academics.

Between September 8th and 9th, members of the research group 'Discourse Particles and Cognition' are participating of the international seminar 'Cognición y construcción del discurso: referencia, inferencia y contexto' at the Heidelberg Center for Latin-America in Santiago de Chile.

New HCIAS Working Paper by Professor Francisco Moreno-Fernández and Professor Óscar Loureda. The paper presents an analysis of public speeches of different presidents in Ibero-America during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to understand how their discourses contribute to creating “social knowledge” about the health crisis.

The HCIAS Blog presents a review on the Open Lecture "The NON-Sustainability of the 17 Global Sustainability Goals: a perspective from the South” given by María Luisa Eschenhagen from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, Colombia, on June 30th. This review is by HCIAS doctoral student Rafael Hernández Westpfahl and goes over the unsustainability of the Global Sustainability Goals and the perspectives from the global south.

Happy to announce two new episodes
In our second episode we discuss with Professor Miguel Carrera (University of Salamanca) the social, political and economic problems facing Latin America as a region and their relationship with the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In our third episode we have as our guest Professor Rudolf Von Sinner from the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUCPR), Brazil. The conversation focuses on the study of Public Theology and its development in Brazil as well in Latin America and Europe.
