In September a pilgrimage will begin that will take us into the Sacred Ground of learning, listening, and being transformed. This Sacred Ground into which we will journey is where racism, as in our history and as in our present time, defines America and Americans. This is a dis-ease that we have inherited; and perhaps unknowingly perpetuate. It is experienced with great and sometimes fatal consequences by persons of color; and those who are white carry the cost of maintaining a system of supremacy. We need only go to Luke 10:29 where we are asked, And who is my neighbor? This pilgrimage is about entering into Sacred Ground where we, as members of St. Peter’s, might initiate our process of redemption, reconciliation, and restoration.

Sacred Ground is eleven sessions beginning September 18, meeting biweekly, with timing adjustments around Thanksgiving and Christmas. We will meet on Sundays after the 11:00 a.m. service in the Library, gathering at 12:45 p.m. and starting at 1:00 p.m. (provision will be made for a simple meal at minimal cost). There is no financial cost for participating in Sacred Ground.

Father Murdock Smith and Joanne Jenkins will lead. Both participated in a Sacred Ground circle, and both have been trained as facilitators. Joanne Jenkins, a fellow Episcopalian, is well known as voice and worker for transformation. They will be the guides for the Pilgrimage.
