Education and activism united in the ZOOM in your Rights 2022 Contest!

The contest “Zoom in your Rights 2022” is being promoted with the implementation of education and communication activities throughout the region. On Friday July 22, a Participatory Workshop for teachers and educators was held for the partners of the Civil Society Support Program. During the workshop, tools were shared with participants for implementing the trainings in their countries. This will enable the participation of children and adolescents in the contest by learning about their rights and formulating proposals. In addition, communication materials about the contest were distributed to participants. Another workshop for teachers and educators will be held in August, we look forward to your participation!

Participants from the “Activism for your Rights” workshop create campaigns for social networks

More than 30 adolescents from different Latin American countries concluded the virtual workshop on Activism for your Rights provided by Chicos.net. In this activity they worked on topics prioritized by the adolescents: climate change and Comprehensive Sexual Education. The first group created a campaign to raise awareness among other teenagers about the causes and consequences of deforestation. Their final productions were designed to be posted on Instagram, using the hashtags #VivamosSinDeforestación and #BosquesProtegidos. The second group created a campaign to dismantle adults´ myths and prejudices about Comprehensive Sexual Education. The productions were designed to be published on Facebook using the hashtag #MenosMitosMasESI.

Paz y Esperanza strengthens capacities to improve the implementation of the gender approach

The capacities of 20 leaders of the partner organization Paz y Esperanza were strengthened in the workshop "Strategies to improve the application of the gender approach and the rights of children and adolescents in the projects implemented by Paz y Esperanza in Peru". With the technical support of ORMUSA, they reviewed the conceptual categories of gender, they made an intersectional analysis through case studies and their projects were evaluated under the gender approach. Two Peruvian feminist organizations PROMSEX and Manuela Ramos Movement participated in undertaking the situational analysis of the gender approach in Peru. The workshop ended with an internal dialogue on the implementation of the Institutional Gender Policy in Paz y Esperanza´s processes, practices and projects.

Young people from 5 groups in Fortaleza, Brazil meet at the V School of Political Training for Young People

From the 1st to the 3rd of July, around 70 adolescents and young people from groups supported by CEDECA Ceará and the Civil Society Support Program participated in the "V School of Political Training for Youth". The theme of this edition was: "From the ciranda (dance) of all to the balance of protection networks: For the life of the black youth in the outskirts of Fortaleza!” The meeting was full of exchange of knowledge and art. Cedeca Ceará generated spaces to share the history of each group, their trajectories and plans for the future. The Training School is a methodology developed in Fortaleza since 2016. The event represents the culmination of actions developed each year with adolescents and young people from the groups Alium Resistência, Meraki do Gueto, Raízes do Bom Jardim, Trup 'irambu and Tambores do Gueto. The first editions were held face-to-face and during the pandemic they were held virtually. "With the return to face-to-face, we had the opportunity to redo the school, uniting the collectives and understanding it as a moment of celebration, strengthening and integration", commented Gigi Castro, member of the coordination of Cedeca Ceará.

Rede Não Bata launches publication "Invitation to Participate: Who Tells the Story, Makes the Story".

On July 7, Rede Não Bata, Eduque launched the publication "Invitation to participate: who tells the story, makes the story. The book contains real stories of participation, excerpts and explanations about the Statute of Childhood and Adolescence (ECA). It also highlights the Network's lines of action, which are: political advocacy, legal reform, councils and forums about rights, training and methodologies, campaigns and mobilizations, and educommunication.

The launching took place within the framework of the activities of the 16 Days of Activism for the End of Physical and Psychological Punishment against Children and Adolescents, which is part of the campaign "June 26th - National Day for Education without Violence", promoted by the Network.

Adolescents in Peru successfully complete the “School correspondents program” of the newspaper El Comercio.

A total of 15 adolescents from southern Lima successfully completed the School Correspondents program and published their journalistic reports on the website of the newspaper El Comercio, one of the most important newspapers in Peru. They are all members of the Advisory Board of the partner Acción por los Niños, the Network of School Municipalities of Villa El Salvador and the School Council of Villa María del Triunfo

The initiative had the support of Acción por los Niños and allowed the training of adolescent journalists who brought to the news issues such as the situation of the School Municipalities, environmental pollution and healthy eating. As a result, more than 320 thousand people read the reports on the newspaper's platform. From now on, the School Correspondents will be organized in commissions to cover events and prepare articles that will be published in the newspaper.
