Principal's News
There has been a solid response for appointments for the upcoming parent teacher discussion day. We set these days aside so that teachers can talk with you about your child, about the celebrations and things to work on. It gives us an opportunity to talk about social interaction and any issues we may have while hearing your perspective. It only works if appointments are made. I think it is important to attend these meetings regularly so that your child sees you interacting with their teacher, checking books, and scanning the walls of the classroom. It's 10 minutes. It's important.

Parent teacher discussions are being held on Thursday, August 11, starting at 12.30 pm. We would appreciate if you could pick up your child by midday. You are able to make an interview time by booking online at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and use the parent code: pptgw

While you are visiting the school you also get an opportunity to call into the book fair and to catch up on some festive season shopping or to look at the wish list created by your child—just for you to look at. There are a range of items on sale. Enough to cater for everyones wish lists.

Wig Wednesday is coming up  on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. This is our chance to give back to this worthy cause and to support some of our students affected by cancer. Out comes the hair sprays and ribbons and hair that looks like it is coming out of a coffee cup. The day is called Wig Wednesday, however, it is anything goes day with hair. A gold coin donation is collected by the school and passed on to the organisers of the day.

The PTA are being very active at the moment with their Pie fundraiser. We are getting lots of orders into the office. Please call the office if you need another order form. The last day for orders is Monday, August 15.

I also hear on the grapevine that a lunch order is going ahead in Week 9. Could be fish and chips again. I hope so as they were very popular.

It is nice to see the students out training for Cross Country. Red faces, and large smiles. We do use a few more ice packs at this time with scrapes and falls. I am getting lots of feedback from the students that they are looking forward to the day back on the farm. Having the colour run down on the farm has made it easier to visualise where the cross country will be held. The Cross Country course will be longer with some more hills in it. We will be using the gate at the bottom of the gully to move students in and out of the school.

Class and individual photos have been booked for Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Posters with ordering information are around the school.

A group of dancers took part in the Dance Extravaganza at the Great Lakes Centre on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. For our first time in the competition we took out fourth. Our students had a wonderful day with dancing workshops and then the final performance. I know that this group of dancers were very committed to their practices and took the whole event very seriously. Well done to our team. We are very proud of what you achieved.

Winter sports are coming to their conclusion. I had a lovely morning up at Owen Delany watching the school netball teams. Our teams are very respectful and showcase their sportsmanship skills at all times. I thought our teams were a great example of Wairakei POWER. They looked good in their uniforms and were well supported by the families.

Steaming into School has been cancelled for this term. We are unable to run this popular school programme due to some staffing issues. We are aiming to restart it again in Term 4.

Well done to our Orienteering Team for coming third in the local competition.  This group of Year 6 students took on the challenge and had a great outcome. It was learning-on-the-spot kind of day. We are very proud of you.

Registration for Touch Rugby is now open. Please complete the form to register your child in the very popular Term Four event. Last day for registration is 3p.m. Thursday, September  29, 2022.

The Board of Trustee election process has started. There is a button on the front page of the website that provides information on how the process will operate. Texts have been sent to the community. The school is looking for five parent representatives and one staff representative.

Remember to get your nomination for the Board of Trustees into the returning officers by noon Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
