High Holidays 2022 - Important Information

The High Holidays are some of the most meaningful celebrations for Jews. In a spirit of optimisim and need for community, Kol Haskalah has decided to hold in-person observances this year at the Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (ERUUF). ERUFF is located at 4907 Garrett Road in Durham.

All of our High Holiday celebrations are open to anyone in the community. There will be no charge to attend any of the celebrations, although donations will be appreciated. ERUUF requires masks for all indoor activities and we will comply fully with their policy.

Save the date:

  • Rosh Hashanah - Sunday, September 25 from 7-9 pm in the Fellowship Hall
  • Yom Kippur – Tuesday, October 4 from 7-9 pm in the Commons Room
  • Niskor – Wednesday, October 5 from 5:30 – 6:30 pm in the Commons Room
  • There will be no Break the Fast this year.
  • We will gather names for reading at the services closer to the holidays.

If you are interested in participating as a reader, candle lighter or greeter, please let Marcia Gumpertz know at mgumpertz@gmail.com or complete the form at: https://forms.gle/AguTmdj57WfvTpSU8.

We would like to provide live streaming as an alternative but need help from someone with the real technical know-how to be able to offer this option. If you are that person and are willing to help, please let Marcia know.

We look forward to being together for the High Holidays this year!

Sunday School Interest 2022-23

The Board is trying to gauge interest in Sunday School and B’Nai Mitzvah classes. Please let Cathy Moore know if your family is interested, the ages of your children, and the number of sessions per month that you would prefer.  We are looking to form a Sunday School Advisory Committee of 3-4 parents to make suggestions to the Board.  We have one parent who is willing to Chair the Committee.  Cathy’s email is cathylynnmoore@gmail.com.

Chavurah means Jewish Fellowship

Tovah Wax has organized a return of our Chavurah group  We will start with a discussion about Israel focusing on the current situation and tensions around the Middle East.  Lynne Kane will moderate the first meeting on Sunday morning, August 21. Due to limitations caused by the need for social distancing, all slots for this meeting are full.  There will be an announcement before the next get together.
