Made possible by Ashton, the GAYographer
Good morning <<First Name>>,

Do you happen to be in Ptown this weekend? I'll be there -- and I would really love it if you would join me for Pre-Tea with the Victory Fund at 4pm.

I really feel like this is my way to keep involved - because I feel that if I am not involved in elections right now, I'm only letting Trump and his minions take-over!

If you're not in Ptown - you also have an opportunity to help elect LGBTQ candidates on Thursday, Sept 15 in New York City - with Victory's first event in the city since at least 2018!

Above, Montreal Pride organizers officially cancelled the event hours beforehand - but people still turned out and made Pride happen.

Hope to see you soon,

Ashton

P.S. Yes - I took a couple weeks off. For the first time in 8 years,  you did not receive GAYography in your in-box in more than 2 weeks. I hope you missed me! :)

MPX update: Finally MPX (monkeypox) cases now appear to be somewhat under control - and New York City will release appointments for 2nd doses at 4pm today. This appears to be due to the broad awareness campaign - as well as fearless individuals who came forward (like these in yesterday's NYT) to warn their friends and peers. Still, if you're having sex - you should definitely have the vaccine! Unfortunately, there is a strong racial gap in its distribution - and despite efforts - there are a few positive cases on college campuses in Pittsburgh and San Diego.

Abortion Watch: In Michigan, a proposed ballot initiative to ensure abortion rights was headed to court after a state board refused to let it move forward - because of "inadequate spacing" on the petition. The NYT also found that in 10 House races, Republicans down-played their anti-abortion stances. Even in red Texas, only 11% of voters in a recent poll agreed to a complete ban on abortion while 6 in 10 said they believe it should be available in all or most cases. In California, lawmakers passed nearly a dozen pro-abortion bills, including expanding access and preventing prosecution by other states.

Putin's War: Finally, UN inspectors appear to have reached the Ukraine nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia. Russia appears poised to cut off Europe from gas. Ukraine is currently mounting a counter-attack in the Kherson region. Yet, Putin hopes to secure the Donetsk region by Sept 15. With the war raging, the Soviet Union's last leader passed away - but Putin did little to honor him. Russia is implementing more propaganda about the war in school curriculum and also plans to double fines for anti-LGBTQ propaganda law.

Exciting new from Asia where India's Supreme Court is expanding the definition of family and Singapore finally relented and ended its ban on sex!

While Serbia may have a gay prime minister - but she is not helping the extreme government from attempting to cancel EuroPride 2022 (slated to take place in Belgrade on Sept 17).

Things are not good in the US, as a Kansas teacher won a settlement for claiming a religious exemption for not respecting student's identity, Indiana judges ruled that Catholic schools can fire teachers for getting married, a Wisconsin school board banned the Pride flag, and in Nebraska a school newspaper was shut down after stories about LGBTQ rights.

Also online right-wingers are attempting to block access to live-saving suicide prevention by flooding the Trevor Project with calls.
