Pandemic programme evaluation findings

Hackney Giving distributed funding throughout the pandemic on behalf of the City and Hackney Public Health team: the Covid-19 Information Grants and Covid-19 Information Small Grants were a large part of our grant-making in 2020 and 2021. These programmes have been evaluated and a report has now been published.

The report demonstrates the value of the voluntary and community sector in supporting communities that statutory provision is not reaching. It states that “through this programme, the Public Health team was said to have achieved much greater reach and engagement with diverse communities and groups than would have been possible otherwise”

Hackney Giving’s role as a trusted and experienced grant-maker was recognised. The report highlights that Hackney Giving “brought substantial professional grant-making expertise, alongside experience of partnering with the VCS and the public sector. Hackney Giving had the capacity, skills and established infrastructure to quickly set up and efficiently process the funding and regular grants payments.”

Anti-racist commissioning
Do you want to make commissioning anti-racist in City and Hackney?

Following the VCS Assembly on Anti-racist commissioning on Thursday 14 July, there will be 2 working group meetings to produce principles and/or recommendations for anti-racist commissioning.

Are you a VCS organisation? We would like to invite individuals from VCS organisations to take part in this working group.

Meetings will be on Zoom on these dates:

Thursday 1st September 14:30 - 16:30
Monday 12th September 14:30 - 16:30

During these 2 meetings, the working group will:
  • Agree principles of anti-racist commissioning.
  • Establish why these principles matter (in the context of the VCS and the health and care system).
  • Outline what you/we can do differently to make commissioning anti-racist and equitable.
The agreed principles/recommendations will be shared with the Health and Social Care system in Hackney and City, with the aim that they will be taken up and put into practice to ensure more equitable commissioning systems.

If you would like to take part, please contact May Rowland: may@hcvs.org.uk
