August 2022:
Season Review and Fall Programming

August 17, 2022
Dear KTFC Community,

What a season! I am sure all of us can attest to how amazing it was to be competing and back to normal this outdoor season. From the elementary and high school meets, to major international competitions, the energy was back in full force. For the 2022/2023 year, we look to build on this momentum.

We had a number of outstanding performances this outdoor season ranging from our JDs to our high performance athletes. The Club was incredibly busy hosting meets, including the BC Athletics Jamboree Championship. This meet was an undertaking. We would like to thank all of the officials, volunteers, and coaches who made this event such a success. We received a lot of positive feedback from clubs around the province. A special thanks goes out to Judy Armstrong, Brian Beck, Mike Kern, Natasha Little, and BC Athletics for spending countless hours on ensuring that the meet ran smoothly.

Our JD and Track Rascal summer camps filled up very quickly and were an absolute blast! Coaches Sophia D'Amore, Temi Aina, and Kayla Hermiston (all KTFC athletes) did a fabulous job with the kids and the weather and clear skies cooperated.

We hope to see both old and new faces back for 2022/2023!

Eli trained with Coach Christine's sprints and hurdles group and Kayla trained with Coach Sean and the middle distance group. We will miss their faces around the track, as well as Kayla's coaching skills with the track rascals. All the best!

Membership News

Volunteer Fee Increase

The KTFC Board has decided to raise our annual volunteer fee from $125.00 to $250.00 for the 2022/2023 season. Every member/family will be required to pay this fee when registering for the indoor, outdoor, or annual membership. We are receiving very few requests for refunds of the volunteer fee at the end of the season which indicates the need for the raise. It is also imperative that more volunteers start to engage in order to run our track meets effectively.

In addition to the raise, we are asking for an increase from 12 to 20 hours of volunteer time to receive your refund. Volunteer hours will now include hours worked at our annual manure sale! This should be obtainable for families and incentivize members to become further involved in the Club so that we can continue to host important competitions for the athletes in Kamloops.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

Training vs Competitive Memberships

When completing your registration, you will be prompted to select a "training" or "competitive" membership. Please take the time to discuss with your child whether they plan to compete in the 2022/2023 season. Athletes signing up as “training” will only be eligible to train with the club – not eligible to enter competitions. If the athlete later decides to take part in track & field/cross country meets (including BC Athletics Championships), they will need to contact the club registrar and upgrade their training membership to a competitive membership category. This is slightly time consuming and creates issues for families when they attempt, unknowingly, to register their child in a competition. If you are unsure, select the competitive option.

Housekeeping
