Out Out

You know - are you going "out" - or "out out?"

Confused?  Like with how to swing a golf club or play the game?  I understand, and I too fall into deep & troublesome rabbit holes of bewilderment at times, what with the plethora (pints, pints and more pints) of (dis?)information coming our way non-stop via our cherished blue-lit screens.

Allow my man Micky Flanagan to explain the subtleties of "outness," then swing back thissa way for some insight, ideas and inspiration on how different levels and forms of outness can help guide you to better peformance upon the links.

Out of physical sight - but never out of spirit

The great Bill Russell made his way to the hardwood & hoops in the heavens recently.

So much to learn from this human; so much more than the winning, and the NBA Championship rings that outnumbered his fingers.

- Resilience that reaches far beyond how you (and I) must respond after a triple bogey, a bad bounce, or a less-than-perfect swing.

- Russell had an agenda (and nothing was going to interfere with it..); do you?  What, and how to practice for improvement that endures, and transfers to the golf course (Train2Trust please). Playing the game of golf understanding your limits, and to your strengths.  Playing the game of life with the goal of helping others - the next generation for example - as opposed to the ever-rising tidal wave of fattening of your wallet and ego.

- A work ethic.  Period.  Sure, he had talent, yet he espoused French novelist Emile Zola's belief on the subject:

"The artist is nothing without the gift, and the gift is nothing without work"

Click on Russell's image above to hear it from the legend himself.

Baseball icon Vin Scully no doubt preparing to call his next game at the diamond in the sky...

More lessons for all of us denizens of spaceship Earth, on and off the links, from the golden vocal cords of this man.

- Scully served as the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers for 67 years. Oh - and you've been 'working at' that swing modification now for a couple of weeks - yet not seeing the progress you'd like?  DO THE MATH, then remember: learning takes time.

- I
n 1972, Scully's 35-year-old wife Joan Crawford died of an accidental medical overdose.  And you think there is hardship when things don't work out quite right whilst chasing a ball around a wondrous park? Put on your big boy & girls pants please and keep in mind what an incredible privlege it is just to play this game.

- Scully on a golf scene: "When you can't take it any longer, we'll understand if you leave."  Compassion, care and a dash of humor witnessing a man in sheer agony on the golf course (click on Scully's image up top for his iconic call).  Where's that today, when so many of our fellow bi-peds are struggling mightily with their own personal life 'hazards..??'

Out of your mind?

Tiger Woods shared his thoughts on the powerhouse fledgling LIV Tour a few weeks back.

"I just don't understand it."

Simple enough, eh? Arguably the most influential golfer ever cannot fathom much of what LIV represents.

Woods ripped into the new tour’s 54-hole, no-cut format compared to the 72-hole format on the PGA Tour, questioning whether LIV Golf players even have an “incentive to practice.”

To each his own - so I ask you this find mid August day: what is your intention over each and every shot you play?  Mind clouded with "don'ts, "shoulds" and "maybes?"

Wowza... Take another look at M. Flanagan up top: is that the look (and we know what he's feeling with that expression, do we not?) on your mug before every swing?  And if not before you say - but often after

Ha!  I understand.  How to remedy?  Put your TW face on and make decisive choices and decisions about what you want.  It's called planning and programming folks, and 'mission control' is located in the country of your mind.

Out of your mind, Part II?

Or not...

Consider: "What would you like to do if money were no object?"

Blasphemous you spout, circa 2022!!  It's what makes the world go 'round (oh but never mind the decaying planet itself, right?)

And how would you look at this infuriatingly addictive game we play if score were no object? I wonder...

So would one of my adopted spirit guides, Alan Watts.  Click just above for a potent reminder from yet another incomparable Brit entertainer; this one, of a more zen philosophical genre.

Out of Sight

Out of sight impactful.  Powerful.  Meaningful.

In a time when anger, dissent and division is slapping this country across its proverbial face - leave it to a punk teenager (V. Scully shedding a tear of joy, no question) to wake us up with a ray hope...

I've got nothing verbiage-wise here, sorry.  Click above and go to Sunday life school.

Out Out

CS out of his effin' gord barefoot and flashing a rad farmer's tan a few short moons ago?

Not at all, amigos - just planning some new offerings as fall '22 approaches that are a bit more comprehensive.  Out of (largely) one offs; towards a mutual longer term commitment where guide and student may mutually prosper.

Think: Concierge Medicine for your game.  Stay tuned to this (and other) channels for details.

In the mean time, in search of some direction for your golf?  Tired of wandering around the interwebs in your carpet slippers hoping to stumble onto a cure?  I hear ya!

I'd be happy to advise live at
Eugene Country Club and at Puerto Los Cabos in the wintry months.  I also offer remote coaching plans wherever you may reside. Click below on either spectacular venue for specifics.

And instead of calling it work, realize it is play"
