Message from our Regional Tourism Manager, Mim Ward

I'm excited to let you know that Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North (RDAYMN) are joining forces with the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) and the Department for Environment and Water (DEW), and that we are proudly supported by the Port Pirie Regional Council, to present the Southern Flinders Ranges Tourism Opportunities Forum at the Port Pirie Sports Precinct on Tuesday, 30 August 2022 from 9.30am - 2.00pm.

Time is of the essence for this event as the SATC have just announced that their Experience Nature Tourism Fund (ENTF) will open for applications at 9.00am on Monday 5 September 2022. This fund will competitively allocate $2 million over four years - ie: $500k per year.

The purpose of the ENTF is to support tourism projects which create nature-based tourism experiences that enhance the visitor experience and encourage visitors to enjoy and learn more about South Australian national parks. To be eligible your experience must be either in park or within a 20 kilometre radius.

SATC and DEW have been working closely together to develop the Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions and you will find a link to both of these and more information below. A webinar session is currently being developed with the Tourism Industry Council of South Australia and as soon as I have the details of time and date I will forward this to you all. This is a fabulous opportunity to capitalise on the works currently underway within the Southern Flinders Ranges. Please contact me if you need further clarification.

The SATC Regional Event Fund is now open and will accept applications for funding until Friday 30 September 2022. Again you will find information below and links to more details on the SATC website.

You will also find information about the Storytown's App (a great tool to promote to visitors and locals alike), Accessible Tourism Accreditation, FRRR Community Grants and more below.

As always if you need further clarification please email me at tourism@yorkeandmidnorth.com.au

Cheers,
Mim

Accessible Tourism Accreditation is now available for South Australian Businesses

Accessible Tourism Accreditation, delivered by Tourism Industry Council South Australia - TICSA, supports businesses to assess, develop and improve their experiences and facilities for the $8 billion accessible tourism market. Businesses undergo a comprehensive self-assessment that evaluates their provisions across six accessibility categories. Two reports are created: a detailed accessibility guide to communicate key information to potential guests, and an internal report designed to help identify areas for development. Accessible accreditation logos are awarded in the categories where all essential criteria are met.

Southern Flinders Ranges Social Media

The official Instagram and Facebook accounts are a great resource for visitors looking for inspiration on their upcoming stay in the Southern Flinders Ranges. We strongly encourage our local businesses to engage with these accounts and their content to continue to build them up. We use Instagram (not Facebook) to collect our content for re-sharing. A very high majority of our content comes from visitors (user-generated) and not so much professional photography. To help build this, we encourage yourself and your guests to use the official hashtag for the region #southernflindersranges and tag our account @southernflindersranges (both on your image and in your caption). As a bonus, this will boost your chances of having your content shared to our page. We encourage you to have a scroll through our profile to view the types of photos that we share, as well as other Tourism Region accounts from within South Australia.
