Proposed Camrose Casino Relocation to Edmonton
The Edmonton Sport Council (ESC) became aware today and is deeply concerned about a seemingly fast-tracked Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) decision, without adequate public engagement, that will relocate the Capital City Casino from Camrose to Edmonton – while retaining its classification as a rural casino. The ESC has been informed that such a move would eliminate at least $6.7M of charitable gaming revenue to Edmonton charities and non-profit organizations and redistribute it to Camrose-area charities. This contradicts AGLC guidelines that money raised in a community stays in that community.
It is the ESC’s belief that Edmonton charities and non-profit organizations should have been directly informed. Therefore, the ESC recommends that the August 10 deadline for objections, which are to be submitted to 'inspections.mailbox@aglc.ca', be delayed to enable the AGLC to engage Edmonton’s charities and non-profit organizations, but would prefer that the proposal be rejected.
