Welcome to the Chamber!

Cal Poly Humboldt announced the opening of its second Campus Store.

Located on the corner of 8th and G streets on the Plaza, the store sells a range of products including branded items from Cal Poly Humboldt, College of the Redwoods, and local high schools; HSU legacy items; housewares and accessories; and Apple and Dell electronics. The site will have the only Apple-certified service center in Humboldt County.

The Campus Stores came out of a desire to have a University presence downtown and have the University represented at events like Arts Alive and farmers markets.

Arcata Chamber, First-Thursday, Zero-Waste Mixers offer a relaxed atmosphere in which people can connect across industries, make new alliances, share ideas, problem-solve and learn about our diverse local business community. Hosts have the unique opportunity to offer a direct experience of their business to an influential group of people.

Our Mixers are open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to bring a business card and share news; your participation will enter you into a chance to win a door prize. Members can get noticed by sharing news on our microphone during the “buck a cluck" rounds.

Student Mentorship Program News

In the spring of 2022, the Arcata Chamber of Commerce collaborated with Arcata High School to offer an 8-week mentorship project in support of seven AHS seniors. Jim Ritter, the College Connect program and community outreach Coordinator for the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE), Education at Work Department, also serves on the Arcata Chamber Board of Directors. He connected our Chamber goals with his work at HCOE. He co-taught the program with Arcata High School teacher Johanna Mauro.

The project came from the Arcata Chamber's strategic plan which is focused on workforce development and mentoring students from local schools in a more meaningful way. Our goal was to use the power of the Chamber's membership network to help the students explore careers and higher education opportunities.

The project was tremendously successful in helping the students to build confidence for their transition from high school graduation to pursuing their preferred futures. It was also successful in giving the Chamber a stronger engagement with our next generation and potential future community leaders.

We are scheduled to coordinate this program again at both Arcata High School and McKinleyville High School this fall semester, starting in late September. The Eureka Chamber of Commerce is also interested in potentially bringing this project to students in Eureka.

Rural Chambers Summit in Calaveras

The Relevance of Rural Chambers Summit is being held October 13-14 in beautiful Calaveras County. Members, community leaders, Chamber staff, and Ambassadors can engage in a deep dive into the role and importance of rural Chambers of Commerce. Less than 100 tickets remain for this first-of-its-kind conference.

“This rural summit being offered to chambers will be a “keep it forever tool kit”. Rural chambers face special and unique challenges. Don’t pass up the opportunity to learn how to handle and overcome those challenges. Attend the summit and bring a friend.”
