The Church of the Bread of Life was completed in 1881. Later renamed St. George's Episcopalian Church, it served the Episcopalian community in Bismarck until 1949 when the parish built a new church. The old church found use as the Calnan Funeral Home until the early 1960s when it was sold to the First Presbyterian Church of Bismarck, which soon donated it to the State Historical Society. In 1965, the building was moved to Camp Hancock for preservation, and the broken stained glass windows were removed and placed in storage.
