Just for Year 12

The Defence Civilian Undergraduate Sponsorship (DCUS) is open to aspiring university students who wish to pursue a degree through the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra campus at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). 

Applications for the 2023 DCUS intake are now open. Apply Now.

There are no military service obligations or requirements. This is a sponsorship for civilian students who may be interested in a civilian career in the Department of Defence.

The Department of Defence will determine the undergraduate degree disciplines that will be offered from the following options:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Aeronautical and Naval Architecture) (4 years)
  • Bachelor of Computing and Cyber Security (3 years).

Eligible applicants will have the full tuition costs of their degree covered and receive a generous annual allowance to cover the cost of text books and equipment.

During the sponsorship students will have the opportunity to participate in paid work placements within Defence, providing exciting opportunities and give an insight into how one of Australia’s largest organisations conducts business.

No extensions will be granted and late applications will not be accepted

The University of Canberra invites prospective students, their families and other interested parties to learn more about the Accelerated Pathways Program (H Courses). Guests will have the opportunity to hear important information about the program and application process, as well as ask questions. Bookings for this online event can be made via Eventbrite. Bookings are essential.

We're excited to let you know that Imagine More has an upcoming workshop that may be of interest to secondary school students. Work Experience: Think Outside the Gate is for families of secondary school students with disability wanting to create community based work experience opportunities that are customised to the student's interests, needs and potential contributions. This workshop draws on the customised employment approach and material developed by Marc Gold and Associates, as well as the lived experience of families and young people.

 

We are thrilled to offer free registration. This is thanks to funding by the Australian Government Department of Social Services through an Individual Capacity Building grant.

Tata Consultancy Services’ goIT Girls program is a week-long work experience program aimed at female students in Years 10 and 11. At TCS, we are empowering Australian students with the skills they need to be ready for the workplace of the future.

goIT Girls is challenging stereotypes and inspiring women in STEM again this year, in its eighth year running! In this TCS-run, week long work experience program, students will meet inspiring senior executives and learn all about the growing number of jobs available in STEM, as future innovators, problem solvers and technology professionals!

SPARK in partnership with Canberra Institute of Technology (RTO Code: 0101) and ClubsACT, are delivering an innovative accredited training program focusing on skills development, work experience and employment within the licenced club industry.
Program partner, ClubsACT will provide work experience placements and real employment pathways for participants who meet the criteria.
 
Commencing Tuesday 18th October 2022, this 4 week program will run 4 days per week (Tues – Fri, 22 hours per week) and be a combination of theory, practical hands on learning and sector work placement. All classes will be located at CIT Reid Campus. Eligibility criteria apply.

Eligibility Criteria
 
To be eligible for JobTrainer funding, you must at the time of enrolment be:
 
  • 17 years old or over
  • Living or working in ACT
  • Not enrolled in or attending secondary school or college
  • An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand passport holder resident for more than six (6) months, or a person who holds a visa that is identified as being eligible, and
  • Not completed the units of competency listed above before
  • Have an interest in the hospitality sector

Most of the hours available will be on weekends, and school holidays but some weekday shifts will be available - Availability over the Christmas break is a must.  

Onboarding & training for this intake will commence by the end of August!  

Pay is under the marine tourism and charter vessels award, with additional allowances for first aid and supervising.
