Join the Powell Street Festival Society, the Advocacy and Outreach Committee, Oppenheimer Park & Carnegie Community Centre, and the Vancouver Japanese Language School & Japanese Hall for our 14^th annual Vancouver Asahi Tribute Game!

Come play a game of ball as we commemorate the historic Vancouver Asahi: the legendary Japanese-Canadian baseball team who played in the Powell Street Area and made strides in the sport while impacting Canadian history and citizenship rights.

The 14th Annual Vancouver Asahi Tribute Game is a free, inclusive, and family-friendly place to play ball, enjoy hot dogs and corn, and come together for some summer fun! (Everyone of all ages and skill-levels are welcome!)

360 Riot Walk Guided Tours

Meet at Woodward's Atrium - 111. W. Hastings St. Vancouver

There are just a few spots left for our September Guided Tours of the 360 Riot Walk! Register now and avoid disappointment.

360 Riot Walk is an interactive walking tour that utilizes 360° video technology to tell the story of the 1907 Anti-Asian Riots in Vancouver. It traces the history and route of the mob that attacked the Chinese Canadian and Japanese Canadian communities following the demonstration and parade organized by the Asiatic Exclusion League in Vancouver. Participants are brought into the social and political environment of the time where racialized communities were targeted through legislated as well as physical acts of exclusion and violence. The soundtrack is available in four languages of the local residents of the period: English, Cantonese, Japanese and Punjabi.

Guided tours are approximately two hours, and are followed by a post-tour reflection & light refreshments.

We hope you were able to celebrate with us during our festival weekend of exciting programming, musical and theatrical performances, a bustling marketplace, and festival foods. This year saw change and excitement as we emerged from the pandemic, including two new programs launched: the JC Youth Cohort and Festival Connect.

JC Youth Cohort welcomed three yonsei and gosei youth from across Canada as part of the Festival Production Team, including a 10-day trip to Powell Street Festival and local historic sites. During this free summer program, the participants received training and education in event production, culture, and history, and opportunities for inter-generational relationship building and hands-on festival production experience. This embodied experience of Japanese Canadian community promotes a deeper connection to place and heritage for the youth, nurturing the next generation and future of Powell Street Festival.

Festival Connect featured on-location reporting and livestreaming of the Festival weekend. Featured programs and a walk through the festival grounds alongside our Festival Connect hosts were enjoyed through live streaming anywhere.
