Embrace the Grace - Weekly Reflection

One of the most treasured teachings of Mother Church is the inherent dignity of the human person. Every single human person. No exception. Human life is sacred, and we have always upheld this through two millennia.

This means you are sacred. We are made in the image and likeness of God. We refer to this as the Imago Dei. We, as human beings, are capable of knowing and loving. This is what makes us different than a dog, a rabbit, or a squirrel.

One of the dangers we face in our culture today is dehumanization. Others may seek to take away the sacred within us, or we might, through our own choices, contribute to our own dehumanization. Authentic love lifts us up toward the divine, and we become more fully human along the way.

Jesus communicates His love in and through His Church, especially through prayer and the sacraments, which are his avenues of grace.

Look at your own life. What enlarges and warms your heart? In contrast, what shrinks your heart and turns it cold? Embrace the former. Eliminate the latter. Allow the Holy Spirit you received in Baptism and Confirmation to enflame the fire of love in your heart and allow the Spirit to guide all your choices.

Transformed hearts will transform the world.

Part 2: Living the Faith
Beginning on Monday, September 12

Two Holy Martyrs Parish will resume presenting the Symbolon series this fall, beginning on Monday, September 12, at 6:00 PM. Part 1: Knowing the Faith, which we offered in spring, was an introduction to Catholicism. Part 2: Living the Faith will focus on the worship of God, the sacraments, and the moral life. We will meet in the small chapel in St. Rene Church.

The Symbolon series will be presented free of charge, and companion materials will be provided at each session. You are welcome to attend any of the sessions in this series. If any family members, friends, or acquaintances have expressed questions about Catholicism, please invite them to join you or to attend on their own. Attendance at Part 1 or prior knowledge of the faith is not necessary to participate in this series. If you have questions, please contact me at (773) 767-1523, ext. 229, or matthew.compton1@icloud.com.
