CPAF Short Questionnaire Deadline less than one week away on 31st August: Act now if needed.

Priority completion of short, screening questionnaire is highly recommended.  Contractors are advised to prepare by reading the PSNC briefing and the questions on the NHSBSA website.

The 2022/23 Community Pharmacy Assurance Framework (CPAF) screening questionnaireis now available for completion until midnight on Wednesday 31st August 2022.

Last time the questionnaire completion was required, if contractors did not complete the short questionnaire a longer questionnaire was then sent which took much more time to complete.

The short screening questionnaire consists of 10 questions. Contractors who use the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) Manage Your Service (MYS) portal will be required to complete the questionnaire on the portal. Contractors who are not yet signed up to MYS will be able to complete the questionnaire online. The questions have been published on the NHSBSA website ahead of the 18th July 2022 go-live date to give contractors advance notice of these. PSNC has published a Briefing to provide guidance on the screening process. Read the briefing

Community pharmacies should receive information and instructions on how to complete the screening questionnaire either via email from the NHSBSA or from their own Head Office. Contractors are advised to contact NHSBSA by emailing nhsbsa.cpaf@nhs.net  if they have not received details of the questionnaire by Tuesday 19th July 2022, or if they have any problems or queries completing the questionnaire.

As a result of NHS regulations introduced at the end of 2020, completion of CPAF is now a requirement of the Terms of Service. Therefore, contractors must complete the screening questionnaire and, if required, the full CPAF questionnaire. Once the screening questionnaires have been completed, NHS England will then select a small number of pharmacies for a monitoring visit and/or to complete the full CPAF questionnaire.

Grandparenting records of pharmacy support staff

GPhC no longer require the original grandparenting forms to be produced as part of an inspection as evidence that the requirements have been met for pharmacy staff. They have asked that if support staff want a copy of their record they should contact GPhC following the guidance below before 30th September 2022 when historic records will be deleted.

Message from GPhC

We no longer require the original grandparenting forms to be produced as part of an inspection as evidence that the requirements have been met for pharmacy staff. In line with our guidance to ensure a safe and effective pharmacy team, employers should be able to demonstrate that learning and development is taking place, the training needs of all staff are regularly reviewed, and their knowledge and skills remain up to date.

The Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR require that information is only held for as long as necessary to meet the purpose for its collection. As we no longer accept grandparenting forms as evidence of current competency of support staff, we will be deleting these records.

Support staff who want to request a copy of their grandparenting records from us should complete a request form and send this to request.grandparenting@pharmacyregulation.org by 4.00 pm on 30 September 2022. We will not be able to process requests after this point. Please submit your request in good time to help us manage requests and respond promptly.

We will do our best to provide any records that we have, but please note that we may not hold the information requested. We hold copies of the these forms, not the originals.

For more details, see the frequently asked questions (FAQs) about how support staff can request grandparenting records during the three month period.

DMS Reminder

DMS is an Essential Service so Completion is a Contractual Requirement

We have been notified that some Lincolnshire Community pharmacies have recently refused to complete DMS referrals, noting that their locum is not trained to complete them. Whilst we are not receiving referral from ULHT at present, referral may arrive cross border for those contractors located on the edges of the county from secondary care providers out of county, and from LPFT and LCHS in county.

DMS is an essential service and as such, contractors are required to complete referrals within the contract specified time period and they cannot be refused. Provision of the service is not optional.

We have been advised that NHSE may be contacting contractors who are not fulfilling their essential service contractual requirements around DMS.  Continued failure to comply with DMS requirements put contractors at risk of receiving a breach notice.

Please ensure you are able to complete DMS referrals in your pharmacy and that the relevant staff including any locums used have completed the required training to be competent in DMS completion.

Welcome Andrea Mudaburi: New Independent Contractor Representative on the Committee

We recently advertised an independent contractor vacancy on the LPC Committee in the newsletter and I am pleased to announce that Andrea Mudamburi has kindly put herself forward for the role.

Andrea will be co-opted to the committee until the end of the current term on 31st March 2022 and hopefully she will put herself forward for re-election in April 2023.

Andrea is the Independent Pharmacy Contractor at Clover House Pharmacy in Sleaford. She qualified as a pharmacist in 2011, having attended University of Portsmouth in 2006 and finishing in 2010. She then went on to do her pre registration training for an independent pharmacy in Birmingham to be closer to home again. Doing her pre registration, training for an independent pharmacy, made her fall in love with independent pharmacy.  She believes in hard work, bringing the best in others and would like to make a difference in local communities. She is looking forward to representing the independent contractor voice on the committee.
