Your Support Needed for NYS EPR bill
WasteNØt/350NYC our co-Beyond Plastics Affiliate  is organizing virtual lobby meetings to ask NYS legislators to sign onto the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) bill for packaging (AB 10185 / SB 9493)   now being sponsored in the Senate by Senator Rachel May.

They have scheduled a virtual meeting with Senator Robert Jackson (District 31) for August 25th at 3 p.m. and are inviting additional constituents to join the call.  District 31  includes Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and parts of Hamilton Heights, Harlem, Morningside Heights, the Upper West Side, Hell's Kitchen, and Chelsea.

As you probably know, SB9493 is groundbreaking legislation that will dramatically change the way we address the problem of plastic waste by:
  • Requiring a 50% reduction in packaging over ten years,
  • Increasing the use of reusable, truly recyclable, and recycled materials,
  • Getting toxic chemicals out of packaging, and
  • Requiring companies to take financial responsibility for dealing with the packaging waste created by their products
They are asking for IEBG subscribers to attend the virtual meeting with Senator Jackson.  You can check to see if you are in Jackson's district by going to:  Find My Senator.

You do not have to be an expert on EPR to be on the call. You just have to be present on the virtual call. What's most important is for Senator Jackson to see that many of his constituents are deeply concerned about passing this bill.

Those interested in joining the meeting can RSVP at  janselo2000@yahoo.com.
We hope to see many of you there to support this important bill.
