Waters Families,
Today is the last day of summer programs at Waters! On most days, we've had about a hundred students from Waters and other schools on campus doing several different types of programs. One of the main highlights was the Eco-Art Camp run by our own Ms. Vecchioni. The program was supported by a grant from the 47th Ward and brought so much life to the area just outside the PreK entrance! Please see the pictures below. There is also a map at the end of the newsletter showing where entrances/exits for each grade are.
The 47th Ward is also offering a microgrant program for students in the Ward this fall. Students may enroll for free in a class of their choosing at Old Town School of Folk Music. Interested families should fill out a brief form by visiting bit.ly/youthart47. A 47th ward staff member will reach out and provide them with a unique code.
You may have seen news about new COVID protocols in CPS for the coming school year. We have started updating the COVID Guidance Page on the school website that covers information about positive cases, testing and ways families can prepare. We will be moving more students to the regular lunchroom this year, but students will still have assigned tables for their homerooms. On Wednesday of next week, you will receive confirmation email letting you know your student's vaccination status according to our records. At the end of last school year, our overall vaccination rate among students was around 85%.
There is also a fair amount of construction going on just outside campus. The two main projects are the continuing water main work on Campbell Ave. and the resurfacing of Montrose Ave. We will send more updates on the status of these projects as they become available.
There are a few Back-to-School events coming up next week that are listed below in the "Upcoming Dates" section of this newsletter. We are also planning to share a preliminary schedule for after school programs next Friday. Waters' after school programs will likely start sometime after Labor Day. The Right-at-School after care program is available starting the first day of school, Monday, August 22.
With kindness,
Mr. R.
