One of the original Marvel Young Guns, Pepe’s career went into turbo mode once he joined Jonathan Hickman — well, technically Hickman joined him , since Pepe was already working on the X-Men — and together with R.B. Silva and Marte Gracia they created one of the most awesome superhero epics in modern history: HOUSE OF X/POWERS OF X

Also, a sale juggernaut.

Also, the best the X-Books have been since Morrison left (or, arguably, Mike Carey).

But now Pepe is leaving Krakoa, because a whole new challenge awaits him. He joins ULTIMATE (get it?) Netflix Story-Machine MARK MILLAR for a brand new series. Everyone knows Millar only steals the best artists in the industry. So technically we stole one of Mark’s biggest STEALS for our event!

So proud.

But you know us. Even the most beautiful occasion will be used to bully you with new rules. Come on, we are still a GERMAN comic store!

Signing rules & comissions

Pepe, who, in addition to handling a monster-gig for Millar, also has a little baby daughter to take care of, is not exactly underemployed… But as a true hero of the comics-people he has nevertheless agreed to accept a limited number of commissions from Walties.

“I think five commission would be something I can manage. This would be busts, heads and shoulders, black and white( maybe one color if the character requires it) , pencil, ink , inkwash or graphite aquarelle. The price we sell those ones in Artcoholics is 450€. We'll keep the price to maintain equality.”

You can either pick it up in person at the signing, or, if you can’t attend, we’ll add it to your next order/shipping action, so shipping would be free of cost.

If you want to be one of the lucky five, send us an email by the weekend with your character motive. Please specify “Pepe Larraz Commission” in the subject line.

At the signing, we’ll allow five signatures per person, free of charge, and quick sketches on the ones who have TPBs, one per person. (It's really difficult to make sketches on the floppies). Signings on more that five items would cost 5 € each. This is not to make money but to disuade people from bringing entire libraries for signing and keeping it manageable.

The ongoing sales

The Nick & Dent August update has still a lot of big books for small prices and our Omnigeddon-prepping “Warehouse Sale” is also going strong. Next Sunday, a part of the stock will be reduced by another 10% and, if time permits by then, we will add a few more single issues.

Delays

Good old delays! Imagine there is hardly any new product for the whole summer and then it also arrives late… It sucks.

We’re expecting two deliveries this week, PRH today or on Thursday and Diamond UK till the end of the week. We won’t have the King Conan on release day, nor Doctor Doom; Animal Man had a super-late FOC, so I don’t expect to get that one in this month… And generally, product from both the US and UK is arriving quite late currently. So sorry, guys.

This is what our main US freight importer is telling us:

We will get your shipment on its way as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the delays result from the fact that there are still problems at all corners and ends. For example, there are always delays at various levels due to (Corona-related) staff shortages, limited vehicle and flight capacities, strikes, etc. ☹

Yup, they still call Covid Corona in Germany.

Pullbox Test Phase

Not the perfect transition, I know (you like late books? Just join our pull list!)

Anyways, we’re implementing a new pullbox system very soon. It will be a different section on our site, where can you comfortably subscribe to series and generally pre-order anything you desire from all of our suppliers catalogues. It’s order-now & pay-at-release instead of the pre-payments for the big books and previews pre-orders.

In order to grow into this, we would like to offer early access to a small group of customers at first. Ideally those who have already ordered from us a few times already. Please contact us with the subject line PULLBOX.

Urgent Sandman questions

Will you get the thick Sandman TPs in?

Yes. Soon. But they will have the Netflix logo on them (I think). Inside, though, they will also have the fantastic comic in an affordable format, if that is of interest to you!

What spine do the Absolutes have?

The Overture has the Vertigo spine, the Sandman Absolutes 1-5 have the DC-Logo on the spine.

Will the Sandman Omnibus V1 get a reprint?

Yes! PRH has confirmed there’ll be a restock, but the date has not been announced. Obvs we’ll get it in.

How do you like the show?

Well, I know that Mike LOVES it! 😉

But he also equally likes Charlie XCX and Hardcore Punk, so…
