First Baptist Church of Charles City has a challenge for Mid-ABC youth!

We have the opportunity to bid on and purchase a new bus for Dayton Oaks Camp.

The Charles City School district is auctioning off a used school bus this summer and if we can raise between $1200 and $2000 we will be able to purchase the bus.

We need your help. We are challenging Mid-American Baptist churches to host a dinner and a movie night with all funds raised going to the Dayton Oaks Bus fund. All you have to do is get your youth together, plan your meal, pick a movie, and set your prices. You collect all funds. Any checks can be written directly to your church and at the conclusion of your event please just send one check to First Baptist Church of Charles City with Dayton Oaks Bus designated in the memo. The winning Youth Group will receive the Fundraiser of the Year Trophy!
TODAY IS THE DEADLINE ****Please have all events completed and funds collected Today.

ABHMS Calls for One Great Hour of Sharing Contributions to Aid Victims of Eastern Kentucky floods

VALLEY FORGE, PA (8/3/22)—In response to devastating flash floods in counties throughout Eastern Kentucky that were spawned by torrential rains, American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS), on behalf of American Baptist Churches USA, has launched a One Great Hour of Sharing campaign to raise much-needed funds to aid victims of a natural disaster that prompted Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to declare a state of emergency. Floodwaters killed at least 37 people and forced hundreds more to flee their homes. With many people still missing, authorities expect the death toll to rise as first responders and the National Guard continue their search and rescue efforts amid the destruction.
ABHMS representatives have been in communication with the Rev. Mark Thompson, American Baptist Executive Minister for Indiana and Kentucky. In turn, they and 70-plus people representing volunteer organizations active in disaster response and relief have been coordinating efforts to address this tragedy. These efforts include giving through One Great Hour of Sharing. “Please pray for our brothers and sisters who have lost loved ones, have family members and friends who are missing and have been displaced from their homes,” said Dr. Jeffrey Haggray, ABHMS executive director. “And consider prayerful giving: your financial gifts will provide food, clothing, medical supplies and shelter, and other critical assistance as additional needs are identified. “ Please join us in supporting the relief efforts for Eastern Kentucky as the area braces for another wave of rain. Donations can be made via your church monthly mission support donations or online
here. Checks designated to “OGHS Kentucky Floods 2022 can also be mailed to the ABHMS Office of Development care of Kim Wilkins, 1075 First Ave., King of Prussia, PA 19406. To ensure your church receives credit for your gift, please include the church name on the check. One hundred percent of your donation is allocated to these relief efforts. No funds are retained to cover administrative costs. One Great Hour of Sharing is administered by the World Relief Committee of the Board of General Ministries of American Baptist Churches USA. The committee facilitates American Baptist emergency relief, disaster rehabilitation, refugee work and development assistance by establishing policy guidelines and overseeing distribution.

ABC USA Accepting nominations for the Cora and John Sparrowk President Award

At each Biennial Meeting, the Cora and John Sparrowk President's Award is presented on behalf of the Board of General Ministries to an exceptional Christian. The recipient must be an American Baptist who has over a period of years made an exceptional and outstanding contribution to the life of Christ's Church and who in life and service manifests richly the fruits and gifts of the Spirit.

This award takes the form of a plaque recording the presentation, a written testimony to the life and service of the recipient being honored, and a monetary gift. Nominations are to be sent to General Secretary Rev. Dr. Jeff Woods using the enclosed form on or before September 26, 2022.

The President, Vice President, and immediate Past President will select a recipient from among those nominated for confirmation by the Executive Committee of the Board of General Ministries. An announcement of the recipient will be made to the Board of General Ministries and the presentation of the award will take place at the Biennial Meeting in June 2023.

Please use the Nomination Form provided to submit your nomination.

Nomination Form

ABC USA Accepting nominations for
ABCUSA Officers for 2024 - 2025

It is time to begin the nomination process for the positions of ABCUSA Officers for 2024-2025:  President, Vice President, and Budget Review Officer. Please prayerfully search out candidates for these positions. The NOMINATION/RECOMMENDATION and the CANDIDATE PROFILE forms for submission of names to be considered by the ABCUSA Nominating Committee can be found on the ABCUSA website at www.abc-usa.org/nominations-recommendations.

The ABCUSA Nominating Committee has selected the category for ABC President to be Clergywoman and the category for ABC Vice President to be Layman.

The ABCUSA Nominating Committee is endeavoring to prepare a slate sensitive to the diversity in our denomination.

The NOMINATION/RECOMMENDATION form (Form #1) is used for both nominating a candidate and for providing a recommendation for someone who has been nominated. The form is to be completed and returned by the individual making the nomination/recommendation. For nominations, please secure agreement of the candidate before proposing one’s name for this process.
The CANDIDATE PROFILE form (Form #2), and the sheet listing QUALIFICATIONS AND COMMITMENTS, should be given to the Candidate. It will be helpful if you note (on the nomination/recommendation form) that you have given the CANDIDATE PROFILE form to the candidate.  Once the Candidate Profile Form, completed by the candidate, is received at the Robert A. Roblee Ministry Building in King of Prussia, staff will secure the necessary region, church and caucus recommendations. Since this takes some time, the earlier a CANDIDATE PROFILE form is received the better. CANDIDATE PROFILE forms received after October 1, 2022 cannot be considered.

Visit www.abc-usa.org/nominations-recommendations  to find the NOMINATION/RECOMMENDATION and CANDIDATE PROFILE forms and the sheet listing Qualifications and Commitments.

We will appreciate your sharing these forms with individuals in your networks who could make recommendations to the ABCUSA Nominating Committee.
Thank you for your participation in this important part of the representative process.
