Welcome Week 2022 Kicks Off at ABC

Students will return to the classroom on August 15, but they have already begun to make their way back to the American Baptist College campus and participate in a number of Welcome Week 2022 activities.
Students were formally welcomed by President Forrest Harris. “You will learn over the course of today and throughout the year that you have made the best choice possible,” he said. “I’m here to serve you, not just in terms of being president, but to serve you in any way I can.”

President Harris’s sentiments were shared by other campus leaders, including 2022-2023 Student Government Association President Harmonie Hall.
“You have made the right choice to make ABC your home,” she said. “The best advice I can give you as SGA president is to stay focused, prepared, open, and ready to learn.”
Dee Thomas, executive director of enrollment management, added, “I am so excited for each and every one of you. This is the first day of an amazing journey. Our goal is to make sure you start and that you finish. We’re here for you.”
“This is our first Welcome Week since COVID-19 and we’re excited to have students, faculty, and staff back in person,” said Nikki Harris Tolliver, director of student success. “I’m grateful to ABC’s senior management team for their guidance, leadership, and support.”

Welcome Week Alumni Mixer

Although our Welcome Week is for enrolled students, we will be opening our doors and inviting ALUMNI to celebrate our return to campus during our 'Welcome Back to the Holy Hill' Alumni Mixer this Sunday, August 14, 2022.

Civil Rights Trail Leads to ABC

A group of 12 individuals who traveled from Los Angeles, CA, to the South and the Civil Rights Trail made American Baptist College a significant part of their tour.
The group flew from LA to Atlanta, then traveled by van to Montgomery, Birmingham, and Selma. They left Alabama and then went to Memphis, Jackson, and finally Nashville.
Jeremiah Parks, alumni affairs and grants coordinator, and Dee Thomas, executive director of enrollment management, took them through all the buildings on the ABC campus and shared the significance of each building to the overall campus.
They were awe-struck by Griggs Hall, where Rep. John Lewis lived, and truly appreciated the McClure Library and how accessible it is for the abled and disabled, and loved the structure and room set-up and studious look, both inside and out.
These 12 visitors, who represented a variety of ages, were excited to spread the word about American Baptist College. They ended their Nashville tour with a visit downtown, seeing the John Lewis mural, riding by Woolworths and First Baptist Capitol Hill, and visiting an AME Church in the area, Greater Bethel A.M. E. Church, across the street from the newly dedicated AME Church Sunday School Union.
"Nashville was a great visit," said Calvin Sauls, the group’s tour coordinator.

Board Member Don Hardin Recognized for Lifetime Achievement
|
|
Nashville’s Don Hardin, president and CEO of the Don Hardin Group and a member of the ABC Board of Trustees, recently was awarded the Nashville Business Journal’s Commercial Real Estate Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes his “significant impact in Nashville’s commercial real estate industry.”

Celebrating Success on the
Baseball Diamond
|
|
Ed Wisdom III, ABC’s director of information technology and technical support, recently coached his grandson’s baseball team to victories on the district and state levels. The 11-year-old All-Star team lost only one game in the Middle Tennessee district before going on to win the state tournament.
