Jenni with Jaron and Joe
Please welcome Jenni Biggs back to DCC. Jenni is the founder of Do Good Shop, a Davis-based nonprofit ethical marketplace that helps empower survivors of human trafficking, exploitation, and all manners of injustice. Do Good Shop offers a safe, living wage artisan employment by matching supporters and resources with survivors of exploitation. As a partner of Do Good Shop, Davis Community Church invites Jenni Biggs to share the impact of our partnership and how we can continue “resource and salary sharing” by tending the wellbeing of the places and people around us.
Jenni is married to her high school sweetheart, Joe, and has 3 kids, Jack, Jada, and Jaron. She loves Jesus, the ocean, and little white lights. She is a vivacious speaker, and we look forward to hearing her speak this Sunday.
In the little epistle of Philemon, Paul challenges his dear friend and brother in the faith, Philemon, to a radical act of Christ-like love. Paul does not command Philemon to obey. Instead he invites Philemon into a radical act of unity: welcoming his runaway slave Onesimus back home, only this time as a brother in equal standing with Philemon and all the believers, not as a slave. Since slavery was woven into the very fabric of the Roman empire, this was a huge, countercultural ask from Paul to Philemon. Philemon 1:1-21
All through the scriptures, we are called to choose love, voluntarily give of ourselves to others, and spread the message of Jesus with our actions even when we may appear foolish in doing so. Jenni Biggs will share a “letter” of encouragement for DCC and what she has learned about Christ-like love from Philemon and from DCC.
Coffee Connect + Bagles & Lemonade!
This Sunday we are highlighting DCC's Family Ministries! You are invited to Coffee Connect + Bagels & Lemonade on the playground after today's service! Thanks to Katie Georgely for helping to host this event and inviting us all to connect with our families with young children.
Zip over to Zoom after the service and join in the discussion. In a small group, you will have an opportunity to share your thoughts and meet friends online.
DCC's COVID Precautions Update: The COVID Community Level dropped this week from HIGH to MEDIUM in Yolo County. COVID Community Transmission, which refers to healthcare facilities, remains HIGH. Yolo County Health Department
Vaccination Required
We continue to require full vaccination, including one booster shot, or testing within 72 hours of events at DCC. A second booster shot is recommended for all who are eligible.
10:30 a.m. service: N95, KN95 or KN94 masks continue to be required. This precaution provides protection for vulnerable congregants and allows young, unvaccinated children to be in the Sanctuary.
On Campus – Masking Highly Recommended
DCC's Session continues to HIGHLY RECOMMEND, but not require, masking indoors as we return to our in-person activities. Having said that, groups are encouraged to discuss and agree to the precautions they will take so that everyone in the group feels safe. Groups may choose to require more, but not less, stringent precautions.
For all who attend Sunday School, we require proof of full vaccination, including booster shots for all who are eligible.
Discovery Time (DT) is a short in-person Bible story time offered in the Sanctuary during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service, and is followed by Sunday School. Children attending DT will be asked to follow the same COVID precautions as those attending the service: i.e., full vaccination (as eligible) or testing within 72 hours of events at DCC, and high-quality masks. Everyone age 2 and over will be required to wear an N95, KN95 or KF94 mask while indoors. We have additional masks of this kind on hand.
For children who do not wish to go into the Sanctuary for DT, or who cannot be vaccinated or test, childcare will be provided outdoors and DT will be available for you to watch from home on the DCC YouTube channel. For all children attending Sunday School or other childcare sessions, please be sure to bring proof of vaccination for your children, or email a photo of their card tokate@dccpres.org.
SAVE THE DATE!
Put down the knitting, the book and the broom!
Come to the Cabaret!

We are still looking for a couple of acts -- magicians, dancers, jugglers, spoon players or something else! Please contact me if you are interested.
You have not only surprised me with generous gifts but moved me by your abundant expression of gratitude. "Thank you" from the depths of my heart for both the REI gift certificate and the special offering. We have lived a lot of life together--its ups and downs, its joys and sorrows, its twists and turns--and through this journey we've given and received so many gifts. I will cherish these final gifts from you as a symbol of the affection between us, the memories we treasure together, and our common commitment to "help all people thrive--body, mind, and soul."
All my love to you,
Chris
All in the Family Our guest preacher on Sunday, Jenni Biggs, is founder of the Do Good Shop, as her bio indicates. The Do Good Shop has a spot at the Thursday evening Davisphere events in Central Park. Davisphere will run through October. Look for Do Good Shop there and learn more about the work they do to provide a living wage to artisans around the world.
A memorial service for Ken Bennett is planned for Saturday, September 3 at 2 p.m. at DCC. All who knew Ken and a know and love this family are welcome to attend. We continue to hold Sue Bennett (Ken's mom) and his wife Kristine, and children Owen and Piper in our hearts during this season of grief. The flowers in the Sanctuary on Sunday are provided by the Bennett family.

Support for Refugees Would you like to learn more about the Ukrainian and Afghan refugees arriving in our area?
Join friends and neighbors at a Zoom presentation on refugee resettlement efforts in Yolo County. Bob Wohlsen, Donor and Volunteer Coordinator for the northern diocese of the Episcopal Church, will discuss refugee resettlement and the many ways—both large and small—that we can help families who have traveled here to escape war in their home countries.
Congregations in Woodland and Davis are exploring ways to help and will present an informational program on Zoom followed by a discussion. There will be an opportunity to join in a group effort to help a refugee family, however, there is no obligation to volunteer. You are welcome to attend the meeting simply to learn about the many small groups who are working together to welcome a refugee family to Northern California.
If you would like to receive a Zoom link to the program on September 15 at 1 p.m., please email Molly atm3hillis@gmail.com.
Thank you!
