Greetings, River Neighbors:

It doesn’t seem possible that the Labor Day weekend is here already. Kids are back in school, and there are Halloween decorations beginning to appear in the stores. Yet it’s still the “dog days” of summer, with some pretty high peak temperatures.

Those temps bring higher power demands, so water releases must increase from tributary dams in late summer to support water quality, water supply, and power generation needs across the Tennessee Valley. Before long, you might notice lake levels in our large tributary reservoirs are beginning to drop slightly because there is not enough natural inflow to maintain summer pool levels while also meeting downstream flow needs. This is a fascinating process, and this link explains how it works.

However, lakes still have plenty of water for the holiday weekend, so you can get out there and cool off. As you do, always remain aware of your surroundings and pay attention to warning signs, lights, and sirens.

It would be a great time to take a whitewater rafting trip or enjoy family camping time at one of our Tennessee Valley Camp-Right Campgrounds. Whatever you choose to do, we are glad to host you on TVA lands and waters. Enjoy your weekend, and be safe.

Tennessee RiverLine

Just when you think summer is over, the Tennessee RiverLine brings on the fun with three events in three states on three consecutive September Saturdays. “Shoals Pride at the River Paddle” kicks off in Florence, AL, on the 10th, followed by Paducah, KY’s monthly paddle on the 17th and a paddle in Stewart County, TN, on the 24th.

Explore TRV

Explore is an exciting word and discovering the Tennessee River Valley via  ExploreTRV is an experience not to be missed. September events range from the Oka Kapassa Festival, a Native American gathering in Tuscumbia, AL, to the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in downtown Bristol, VA., the birthplace of country music.

Camp-Right Campground

There’s a place for everything. Camp-Right Campground operators know this old saying and ensure that campers use picnic and camping pads. This practice cultivates sustainable campgrounds that provide safe, high-quality camping experiences while conserving natural resources.

Clean Marina

A TVA Clean Marina designation creates a positive shift in how visitors perceive both the environment and the marina. The TVA Clean Marina flag and required educational signage remind boaters and other marina visitors that environmental stewardship is important to TVA and to the designated marinas.
