Doors Open Day

This year, we’re taking part in Doors Open Day, Scotland’s largest free festival championing heritage and the built environment. Entry to the museum will be FREE for all, ALL DAY!
Expect lots of action inside the museum, with navigational object handling and games for our younger visitors. Tours will be running through the museum and - for the first time EVER - visitors will be able to go into our collection stores for behind-the-scenes insight!
Outside, our gardening and engagement teams will be planting flowers and teaching our guests how to care for the plant life.

Willow Weaving – Make Your Own Bird Feeder

Join the team at David Livingstone Birthplace and learn how to make your very own bird feeder, using willow-weaving techniques. With autumn approaching, these feeders are the perfect addition to any garden or allotment to help wildlife get through the colder months ahead.
Please book in advance, places are limited. Recommended for adults.

Paper-Folding Workshop with Kate Colin

Join us for a fun and colourful workshop where you'll be introduced to the wonderful art of origami and paper folding. David Livingstone Birthplace will be joined by Kate Colin, a Glasgow-based paper artist regular teaches the art of origami and paper folding.
You'll be guided though the process of making some stunning three-dimensional geometric hanging decorations using just a few simple folds. And once you’ve mastered the technique, you can make a range of sizes and colours!
Suitable for all ages but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class. All paper, materials and tools will be provided.
