MAWD SUMMER TOUR HOSTED BY RED RIVER PARTNERS
The Red River Partners Summer Tour was held August 23-25. The primary location for the event was the Canad Inns at Grand Forks, ND. There were three radio shows broadcasting live. Interviews were done with board members from partner organizations.

The event began with “An Evening with Red River Partners”. Allen Grasser, Grand Forks City Engineer spoke about the 1997 Flood and Lessons Learned. Randy Gjestvang, Red River Water Resource Engineer, explained the North Dakota Red River Joint Water Resource District. Rob Sip, Executive Director of the Red River Watershed Management Board gave an Overview of the RRWMB. Keith Weston, Executive Director of the Red River Retention Authority presented An Introduction to the RRRA. Ted Preister, Executive Director, Red River Basin Commission explained the RRBC’s Long-Term Flood Solutions Plan. The evening concluded with Nicole Bernd, District Manager, West Polk SWCD and Brent Arne, Board Conservationist, BWSR summarizing Watershed Partnerships and Collaboration.

The Red River Partners Summer Tour was held on August 24. The tour featured drive-by locations and tour stops. Completed in 2013, the erosion and flood control project included 9.7 miles of dikes, 28 side-water inlets and 300 acres of a grass buffer corridor created through RIM (Reinvest in Minnesota) easements.

2022 ANNUAL MAWD CONFERENCE
The MAWD Events Committee called for abstracts for the 2022 MAWD Annual Conference and Trade Show. Speakers were invited to share their knowledge and findings that strengthen the management, protection, and restoration of the water resources in Minnesota, particularly those under the management of local watershed jurisdictions. The deadline to submit an abstract was August 26, 2022.

The MAWD Events Committee will meet in early September to review the abstracts. A schedule of events will be prepared. The MAWD Annual Conference will be held December 1- 3 at the Arrowwood Conference Center in Alexandria, Minnesota.
11th INTERNATIONAL DRAINAGE SYMPOSIUM
The 11th International Drainage Symposium will be held August 30 to September 2 in Des Moines, Iowa. Two days of sessions will highlight drainage research, practice design, implementation, and policy. The third day of the symposium will feature field tours highlighting some of the innovative drainage work happening locally. To learn more about this event, click here.
BWSR ACADEMY
Planning is underway for the 2022 BWSR Academy. The local government unit staff training event will be held October 25-27 at Cragun’s Conference Center in Brainerd. Click here for more information.
